I know I'm in the minority here, but I didn't particularly care for Knives Out.

We didn't care for it either and we're excited to watch it. This isn't false expectations, it just wasn't very good.

I can understand someone not liking Knives Out but saying people should 'AVOID' it? c'mon is was a competently made movie with a fun cast and unique plot line; definitely not something as atrocious as it would feel like a waste of time for someone to view.

Agreed, didn't meant to derail.

That being the case, I would definitely avoid watching it again

I think you have to know what you're in for. It was billed as a comedy/crime movie. It wasn't that funny and was really just an update of clue.

Yes. It was heavy on the crime - light on the comedy.

I thought Knives Out was pretty good but not outstanding like so many other people thought. The first half was slow but the movie got better. For being a murder mystery, I thought it was somewhat predictable.

Ha. It's nothing like clue. That movie was nearly slapstick. The presence of Madeline Kahn, Martin Mull, Michael Mckean and Christopher Lloyd makes it a very very intentional comedy. This movie had NO comedic actors of that type. To compare them and say this wasn't funny is just incredibly miopic. This movie was never intended as that type of comedy. More situational not slapstick pratfall hijinx funny. So to compare them means you expected that kind of funny? And it was less funny? Well yeah. It was not supposed to be that.

It wasn't billed as that at all. More like an odd Wes Anderson type of crime/drama really. Odd characters and situational. Not slapstick.

That's the laziest comparison I've ever seen on here and could not be more off base. That's like saying Jaws is nothing like Finding Nemo. They were both based in the sea and had sharks so.... It's true. But irrelevant.

Wow - you really zoned in on an off-handed joke and took great offense. No - I didn't b walk in to Knives Out expecting a slapstick comedy. But I did expect something funnier than what I got - for example you have Daniel Craig doing a foghorn leghorn impression for the whole movie.

As someone said - that movie drug on and on, especially in the beginning - picking up ever so slightly in the second half.

I suggest you chill out for a second before you give yourself an aneurism stressing out about knives out critiques

Melancholia

The single worst movie I've sat through the entire way. There have been plenty I've turned off part way through, but this one was so depressing and horrid I just wanted to see if everyone died so I could at least feel a little bit happy.

Just consider a few snippets from the *positive* reviews on RT:
Quote:

There is no hope. Yet there is breathtaking beauty...

Quote:

a hauntingly beautiful meditation on depression

Quote:

"Melancholia" isn't an angry film, just one that doesn't offer anything in the way of comfort, except for the satisfaction that can be taken away from great art

Quote:

overlong and thematically suffocating, but its inherent visual beauty..

Quote:

It's the little moments that annihilate us, every day, every normal day. Days that don't end, days when the end of the world is a comfort

Watched half of Extraction on Netflix and maybe I was just tired but somehow found it really boring and didn't care about anyone in the movie. I'm easily entertained when it comes to action flicks but just wasn't doing it for me.

Very delayed answer, I googled Chris Evans disappointed gif.

Just tongue in cheek of not liking a movie he was in.

Most people liked snowpiercer I felt. My wife hated it but she doesn't like sci-fi very often.

I agree. I'm not sure why I love John Wick yet found this dull. They're very similar with little plot and lots of killing. One works, the other doesn't.

Ha......notice I started with Ha on that post too.... it was more incredulous than anything. I'm not twisted off about anything. It was off-handed as you said...and I called it lazy. Pretty much saying the same thing there. Not to mention my joke of comparing Jaws and Nemo.

Back on topic.

Superstar

I remember renting the DVD years ago at blockbuster. I thought it might be ok since some of the SNL skit conversions were entertaining.

I lasted about 10 minutes then took it back and swapped for a different rental.

Horribad.
