Next Friday is better than Friday
But Friday After Next belongs on the other thread.
You are on Crack. How many quotes do you hear from the 2nd movie?
I guess so.
My friends and I quote the second WAY more than the first.
It's not even close.
I'm with you on this one. I like Next Friday better - I think Mike Epps character is more enjoyable
I guess that's fair. Mike Epps was pretty awesome in...nothing. Nothing at all, ever.ryanhnc10 said:

Gotta disagree. In retrospect I think Alien is one of those movies that could have been a one-and-done. There are two films released in the 70s that are routinely referred to as being the best of the horror genre - The Exorcist and Alien. (Nevermind that I consider Alien to be a science fiction movie with strong elements of horror).Bruce Almighty said:

Even though they are from the same franchise, I never equate the two, because I see them as completely different, which means judging them in different ways. Alien is a haunted house movie set in space. Aliens is an 80s action flick. Both outstanding at what they do, but because they approach it so differently, I think it does a disservice to both to attempt to compare them. Preference will lie in which you like better personally, horror or action.Cinco Ranch Aggie said:Gotta disagree. Aliens is a damn fine movie, true. The way I look at Aliens, however, is at its very basic level. It is a story of a group of people trapped in a place from which there is no easy escape while having to deal with these creatures. I just described Alien as well, except that the sequel pluralized the creature. Aliens brings in some window-dressing differences, Colonial Marines with all their firepower, but at their essence, these films are very similar. And Alien is literally the scariest movie I ever saw in a theater (was too young to see The Exorcist in its theatrical release). So in my mind, Alien > Aliens simply due to the impact it had on 12-year-old me.

I don't disagree with anything you're saying here, but I do maintain that all the '80s action flick stuff is just window dressing and what you are left with is a group of people trapped with a monster (or in the case of Aliens, monsters). In that light, they are essentially the same movie. Having said that, Aliens feels different than Alien for the reasons you stated. Unlike Alien, Aliens was not a particularly scary movie (although it did have one scene that caused me a bit of fright with that queen coming down a hallway toward the elevator when Ripley and Newt are waiting for the freaking elevator to move, I guess a claustrophic reaction for me); but once Aliens got going, it was a far more frenetic and seat-of-your-pants movie, and with a change of setting (and species), could easily be considered a Vietnam war movie with the aliens in the role of Viet Cong.Quote:

I loved both of those movies, but then again, I got in some dog-meat trouble with my mom one day when I decided that the wall outside my bedroom was a great canvas for me to draw Godzilla fighting King Kong with crayons when I was about 3-4 years old.MGS said:

The same can sort of be said for T2. Both Terminator and Alien were excellent, but "suffer" in comparison to their sequels in part because of the incredible technology improvements that the sequels got to work with. Mad Max / Road Warrior fit the category too.bluefire579 said:Even though they are from the same franchise, I never equate the two, because I see them as completely different, which means judging them in different ways.
