When I found out we were going to see it I thought "this is gonna suck" but it was a hell of a lot better than the original. No stupid love story crammed in, better jokes, etc.

One of the biggest problems with Conan the Destroyer was that it was rated PG. Barbarian was R, which led to much more graphic violence and some sexually-driven scenes. Destroyer had none of that, although it did have some good eye candy with that teen that Conan had to rescue, or whatever was going on in that plot.

The plot wasn't too bad. I thought the fight scenes were pretty good, even without the R rating. The opening scene was awesome, as was his fight with the Queen's guard and the final scene with Andre the Giant.

Also, the music is awesome. One of my favorite movie soundtracks.

I'd have to listen to the score again (difficult since I have it on LP) but my recollection is the score for Destroyer was mostly recycled from Barbarian. The Barbarian score is one I listen to frequently.

It's the same music, but doesn't mean it isn't awesome. Also, I was close to pulling the trigger on ordering an Atlantean sword from the company that had the rights to make them from the molds from the movie. IIRC, it was like $1500 back in 2006 or so. Didn't do it and I kick myself in the butt. I think they're double that now. The detail on them is amazin.

Conan the Destroyer made it hard to believe Conan is the strongest person alive when Wilt Chamberlain is also ripped and 9 feet taller than Arnold. Conan the Barbarian had a way better villain.

I had a buddy who's life ambition was to drop the Thulsa Doom line into a random meeting at work or while interviewing someone for a job.

They shall all drown in lakes of blood. Now they will know why they are afraid of the dark. Now they learn why they fear the night.


and then just keep on talking like nothing had happened.
