All of you people feeling old remembering pop punk bands from the early 2000s can shove it. My pop
punk goes all the way back to 1987 with arguably the OGs of pop punk - The Descendents. Even saw All (the follow up band to The Descendents after Milo left) at the Stafford Opera House in downtown Bryan in 1993.

My girlfriend in HS absolutely loved this junk and over time I grew a soft spot for it. Won't listen to it or anything but it does take me back.

She was too cool to like anyone that was popular so my memory is fuzzy. Also y'all mentioned most of them.

Cruiserweight
Manatee
Gob

Three of the members of Cruiserweight were a set of siblings from my hometown. Biased but I enjoyed most of the stuff I heard from them.
They were catchy with Stella's upbeat voice. Amused me to listen to something like Postal Service and constantly want to die and then Cruiserweight would bring joy back into your life.

I literally do not even recognize one of those bands.
Yeah, me neither. She typed them. The only ones I know are Stand Atlantic, With Confidence, and Waterparks because she has seen them in concert in Houston numerous times.

I'll toss in a few more recent bands that are putting out great stuff

  • Against Me!
  • A Day to Remember
  • PVRIS
  • Man Overboard
  • Real Friends
  • State Champs
  • As it Is
  • The Dollyrots
  • Hey Monday
  • Icon for Hire
  • The Wonder Years
  • Pup
  • The Menzingers
  • The Story So Far
  • Four Year Strong
  • Against the Current
  • Tonight Alive
  • Falling in Reverse

However if you want to hear that old school emo Spotify has a couple of great playlists from the early 00's stuff:

Emo Forever: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DX9wa6XirBPv8?si=_l8huivsQQuYZKGUCu_qlg

Pure Pop Punk: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DXasneILDRM7B?si=Lrp-QygnQA-OSPp_ZfIL8w
16yo daughter loves most of these currents (plus olds like MCR, Weezer, Blink 182, Greenday, ect). She wanted me to add:

-neck deep
-stand atlantic
-happy
-broadside
-bring me the horizon
-with confidence
-between you & me
-meet me @ the altar
-prmrse
-makeout
-grayscale
-two trains left
-doll skin
-oh, weatherly
-save face
-origami angel
-baseline
-waterparks (more of their old stuff, their newer stuff is more alternative)

+1 for Neck Deep. December (again) is the single that got me listening to them. It features Mark Hoppus so I was guaranteed to like it.

Only reason I (well, daughter) posted the list is because people that like the whole emo vibe/style of MCR etc, good to know of small, up-and-coming bands. Love how quoted poster listed some lesser known emo-ish bands for those that might want to check them out.

Of the list my daughter posted, she is biggest on Waterparks, who are out of Houston (Cypress), and have gotten a lot of radio/sat radio traction. About a year and a half ago, she and I made a run to our small neighborhood Buccee's (not one of the giant ones you are familiar with) in Greatwood. Daughter walks out of bathroom, walks up to me, and says to the girl standing near me "Grace?!" She recognized her as the girlfriend of the Waterparks drummer, who was outside vacuuming his Jeep. Met him, got a quick pic, and left. Her only regret is she has a shirt that says "Otto is my mom," which happens to be some random Waterparks murch.

Also, while not technically emo, check out Yungblud, different style that is difficult to categorize. British dude. Def alternative, with some rap elements. Still small, but blew up a little when he dated and did a collab with Halsey. Also did a calab with Machine Gun Kelley.

Wow. Bring Me the Horizon went from being screamo / metal when the first started to now being on your daughters list of pop / punk favs.

Weird how fast they fall.
