Bashing other people's taste in music is just not something I've ever understood. Does it make people feel better about themselves? There was great music in the 90's and there was great music in the 2000's. I personally don't like rap or hip hop, but disparaging those who do doesn't better my life in anyway.
I would say, making a list of great 90's albums without Weezer, Green Day, the Toadies or the Offspring would be lacking. 1994, in my head, is up there as one of the greatest years from popular rock music. Also, I would say the Foo Fighters were probably the last with a true "rock star" at the helm. Not too many after him I would list in that category other than Jack White, unless someone can jar my memory (Not meaning to derail the thread).
I didn't start really paying attention to music until the late 90's, so '97-'05 were my formative years. I preferred the more melodic pop-rock of the 90's versus the grunge rock. I just do the greatest hits for a few of the obvious grunge acts (Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jame, etc).
