I was really excited for this show, but it's starting to lose me. I enjoy the parts where Perry Mason is actually investigating. However, it seems that much of the rest of the show, and character storylines just comes off as trying too hard. Sometimes less is more.

John Lithgow's character is overdone to the extreme, in my opinion.

So far I'm really enjoying the show more than I expected to. I think Matthew is doing a wonderful job, he really kind of looks awful though. Definitely gonna watch it out to see where it goes.

It's interesting with the evangelist character because she's based on a real person, Aimee Semple McPherson.

I will not be surprised if sister Alice goes for Perry.

They shared a weird look in episode three. She's preaching, notices him in the crowd, to the point where it causes her to pause for a second, like she's shocked to see him. And this was before they had a single scene together. There's some kind of secret romantic history between them, is my guess.

Could be or she's just incredibly attracted to him. Don't get the sense that mama has let her stray much.

I am sort of okay with they way they did it, especially if he gets help from the assistant da behind the scenes. Still not my favorite choice.

Yeah, it was handled well. A *little* rushed, but I think it works.

I feel like they are jamming a lot into these episodes. I will need to rewatch after the season.

Plus, it means the defendant would have a really great shot at a mistrial due to ineffective assistance of counsel.

Do you think it is because it garnered that much interest, or with COVID there was less new programming to choose from?

I would bet COVID played a big part.

I didn't even know about this show. I almost scrolled passed it thinking it was a replay of the original 50s version when I saw I was in the HBO section of my guide. I selected it and saw Phillip from The Americans was the lead and realized that this was clearly a show I should watch. Have not been disappointed.

Yep, great episode and a nice change of pace. It's a lot of fun watching Perry evolve and find his footing as a lawyer. I'm the same way in that I'm not anxiously anticipating each episode, nor I do feel compelled to try and solve the case via reddit deep dive or anything like that, but it's always such a solid, entertaining hour of television, and remains so beautifully shot. Granted, I'm having trouble connecting with the preposterous raise-a-baby-from-the-dead storyline, but everything else is aces, IMO.

Yeah, not sure on the resurect the baby thing. At one point tonight I thought they had blown it off and forgot it until Perry mentioned that it is coming up soon. Not sure where they go after this season with Mason being a lawyer now, but he has a good staff around him. As far as the resolution goes, I think the judge has his thumb on the scale of justice and knows at least a little of what is going on. Not sure where they are going with everything though. The next two episodes should be interesting.

Big surprise the church is going to end up being the evil behind this case.

Also, when the mom opened the door to reveal the packed bags... was I the only one expecting to see a Charlie look a like for the Easter service?

This, to me, still remains the best thing out there right now. I look forward to this every week. Maybe because it is simple, less gritty, dark, and introspective like most tv dramas today is refreshing. It's taking minimal characters, one story, not too many twist and turns, and we're from what I can tell going to get a nice ending and case closed. We'll see.
Yes dead babies are gritty and making Della a lesbian is edgy. But for the most part pretty straight forward classic drama.
I like it a lot, entertaining, and I said it earlier in this thread, but it's all about the money, the development, using the church to get there.

Yeah, this is basically the only show on my dvr each week at this point.

We've enjoyed it so far. Its fairly "clean" from a storyline perspective. Have also enjoyed weaving the old characters into the story line with different backgrounds.

This is the only show I watch at all. I was thinking the TV golden was coming to an end, but this show may extend that a little longer. Once Better Call Saul ends, this may be the last one left.

I'm enjoying the show so far. Was hoping it would be next great show I'd be dying to watch and listen to podcasts and read about, but it's not doing it for me in that way. Good show, not great, will keep watching.
