My last reply I said this show is incredibly overrated. That was harsh and exaggerated. I'm not a fan of the show, but its not an awful show.
I'll go a little deeper as to why I think that.
To me, Ozark showcases top notch writing, producing, cast, and directing. They (and Batemen gets credit on the development side since he produced it) take a one dimensional actor known for ridiculously dry, sarcastic, self deprecating, ironic comedy.. who doesn't act any different than any other role he's ever been in, and they build a universe around him that makes this EXACT same acting seem dark and serious. THAT is talent.
That being said, the show is polarizing for people. Not in a love it / hate it way.. more in a love it / meh way. I'm on the meh side. I just don't really care for the plight of the main protagonist / anti-hero. I didn't like Breaking Bad, but I pulled for WW. I don't pull for Bateman here. I keep hoping he gets his ass handed to him, and thats because of his one dimensional acting style that keeps me thinking that this is the same character from Horrible Bosses, Couples Retreat, and Hancock, and is merely a sequel for his character. The plot itself to me is not my cup of tea. I actually enjoyed the 1st season more than the 2nd. I felt it at least did a decent job setting up the story. After that, it just became another "detective styled show" where they conveniently find a way out of ridiculously idiotic and unbelievable situations. And the times something genuinely doesn't go the right way, it's over the top.
Just my opinion.
