Got this email today. Figured some of you guys did as well but also might not see it.

Quote:

As we pass the 3-year mark for our service, we want to sincerely thank you for being part of our journey and share a few updates on the future of YouTube TV.

We built YouTube TV to bring you the best of live TV, delivered how you want it, without commitments. Since our launch, we've listened to your feedback and worked to build an experience that fits the needs of everyone in your household.

Today we are also adding more of ViacomCBS's family of channels to YouTube TV, which includes 8 of your favorites: BET, CMT, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, TV Land, and VH1.

To continue delivering the best content and service possible, we're also updating our price for new and existing members to $64.99/month. Your base membership price will change on 08/26/2020. To check on the status of your account, go to your Settings > Membership page for updated information.

We don't make these decisions lightly, and we realize how hard this may be for our members. This new price reflects the rising costs of content, and we also believe it reflects the complete value of YouTube TV. In addition to the 85+ live channels, YouTube TV is the only streaming service that includes a DVR with unlimited storage space (with content saved for 9 months), plus 6 accounts per household, each with its own unique recommendations, and 3 concurrent streams. It's all included in the base cost of YouTube TV, with no contract and no hidden fees. You can see how we compare to other offerings in the industry here.

We hope YouTube TV continues to be your service of choice, but we also understand that some members may want to cancel their service. All members have the flexibility to pause (your current library recordings will be kept) or cancel anytime.

You can find more information in the YouTube TV Help Center and our recent blog post.

Thanks for being part of YouTube TV.

Trying to decide if this is a big deal or not. Off the top of my head I can watch Yellowstone and South Park (live) now. Not sure if there's anything else I'd watch on those channels.

What does Hulu Live cost?

What I don't like is that you can't opt out of the new price/channels. That was supposed to be the whole idea.

I personally would subscribe to the new tier anyway because I like some of the new channels, but I don't like that they didn't give us an option.

We finally have a new fiber internet service being run through our neighborhood and I was planning on switching to them and cutting the cord to YouTube TV in August or so...but yeah, it is looking like I'll be saving less than I thought...

Still have the edge on no contract, no devices to rent, no taxes to pay, so that's nice. Hulu doesn't play well with my Sony TV for whatever reason. I get random green boxes and artifacting that pisses me off.

I still miss Vue, and will even more when sports come back and I miss the glorious multi-screen.

Having a big household, I needed the 3 streams with YTTV vs the 2 you get for Hulu. Getting unlimited streams with Hulu was $15 extra a month. But finding that we seldom have more than 2 streams going at the same time....so I may be making the switch. As someone mentioned....not having contracts makes this easy.

That is a complete garbage list of channels to raise the price up that much. That's ridiculous.

Enjoy the service but raising the price 15 dollars for that crap is insane. Will look for something else in August.

Since FUBO Just picked up the Disney channels (including ESPN) and already had the channel the Astros are on I think I might give it a shot.

Cutting the cord and not contributing any payments to that absolute TRASH of a network MTV, was why I switched to YoutubeTV.

We're seeing the same trend of bundling together a bunch of horrible and uninspiring networks into a successful platform, and incremental price increases.

No option. No choice. These networks and platforms are watching out for each other, at a cost to the consumer.

For $65/month there should be a substantial offering of untraceable pr0n options.

It's the exact same thing as cable. What a joke.

Knew this would happen but cutting the cord once again in august

15$ increase for 8 trash channels? All while 40 million people are unemployed? Interesting strategy.

I think a 30% increase is a big deal. Assume they believe the loss of subscribers is worth it. Others may follow suit. Still cheaper than what we were paying for DirecTV, but I'm also going to look at Hulu and DTV Now after July.

If that is true then that might be a no brainer.

The ESPN channels is the only reason I didn't get it last football season. Add those and they offer the most sports and it's not even close.

This will be my 3rd year adding live TV the day football season starts and ending the day after the Super Bowl.

I wouldn't pay $1 for those but I could stomach maybe a $5 dollar increase. This is just an excuse to jack up the price overall I think. Nobody wants those channels.

YouTube must really have its customer personae building down to a science because if there's one thing most Americans are looking to do right now, it's spending a lot more money on watching TV.

The very first two new channels listed (BET & CMT) made me wonder - is there a single person in America that has BOTH of those in their 'Favorites' list?
I mean, what demographic could that possibly be?

Cut the cord in February. Plan was to get YouTube TV whenever sports come back. May need a new plan now

I have bundled internet, cable, and probably a home phone line from ATT for around a hundred. That's a couple hundred channels with the second or third crappiest company on the planet (rankings updated every couple years when I switch providers).

If I wanted to buy internet only and this tv bundle, it would be about the same price, delivered through the same **itty 50 year old copper line.

Congratulations internet tv, you're cable or satellite but without the physical cable or satellite.

Was reading a review about FuboTV and this quote is fairly interesting:

Quote:

After they add Disney-owned channels, fuboTV will offer every channel that YouTube TV offers and you'll gain A&E, Hallmark, History, and Lifetime.

So you get every channel YoutubeTV has, plus even more sports channels, and it's cheaper. Great move Google.

Did someone say Hallmark?

I pay 5.99 a month for that alone right now

So I've got the Hulu/Espn/Disney bundle for 12.99, Netflix, HBO, and Youtube Tv.

The only for sure channels that I want/need from Youtube are my locals, and HGTV (dealbreaker for the wife). If I want to drop Youtube Tv, where can I pick up my locals, HGTv, and have a DVR/recording option?

I don't see the ESPN channels in their line-up.

Sounds like it's back to the antenna and sling for me

Edit: $30/mo for sling, no sports exist now so don't need those. Sounds great. Already have antenna and Plex so I have DVR for that.

Says they are adding them in a few weeks. Hopefully not a price increase along with those channels. Legend has it that ESPN is the most expensive channel for a carrier to have.

FuboTV is following along and raising their price as well.

I highly doubt they add ESPN channels and don't raise the price. I would expect at least a 5$ per month bump, maybe 10.

If those new YouTubeTV channels truly cost $15 to add, ESPN should increase fuboTV by at least the same.

If FuboTV was smart, they'd wait to raise prices until September after people jump to them from YouTube.
