We will be moving to Hulu. I thought we were going to have skinny packages or at minimum tiers. This is basically cable. I remember having cable/internet in college for $50/$50. Now I'm back to $65/$65.

Can someone remind me... do the new episodes of South Park show up on traditional Hulu after only a few days of airing? Or does the season dump all at once, months after it's finished its season like most shows?

Seems like its the former but I can't remember

I think only $55 here in Dallas, but I totally get your point. Again, really wished they had smaller bundles.

I hated the bundle offerings from Sling when we tried them out. I guess choosing between bundles is still preferable to just paying for it all.

This really wasn't a revolution for the industry, it's just been the same thing "reimagined" with different delivery formats and services.

We have Hulu with ads as an extension of Spotify Premium account. It looks like we can 'add-on' Hulu Live for $55 (for now I guess). Except for CNBC (for my work and usually on mute) and sports (mostly SEC network anyways) we don't watch much live TV. The kids are just fine with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ and the various Roku channels.

$55-$59 feels like the right monthly price. Getting to $64+ without premium channels may push people to find other options or, like Spotify+Hulu, serive may need to combine complimentary services. (Imagine a YTTV + XM sub for $70-75/month, no commitment.)

Yea I'd rather pick and choose at $5 a channel than pay $65 a month. We don't watch more than the 13 channels that would make it cost more this way. Probably could choose a handful of channels and be happy. Funny, that's how "cord cutting" started really.

If enough people actually make the push it will happen. They're just trying to do what the cable companies did and hopefully also fail.

If you want to play that game, I used to have internet in college for $25. Irrelevant.

Imagine you've got two kids, one of whom is a 5 star recruit and the other who is a 2 star. Now imagine further that the 5 star kid doesn't care where he's going to school and has no opinion whatsoever. Imagine further that two programs are interested in the 5 star, and that they are entirely equal in every way. Opportunity, trajectory, leadership, distance from home, etc. Perfectly balanced.

Program A offers the 5 star.
Program B offers the 5 star, and will also offer the 2 star if the 5 star commits.
Where does well meaning dad send his kid?

If you're Disney, ESPN is the 5 star kid. If you make people take on Nat Geo or FreeForm or whatever else in order to get ESPN, you then get to sell advertising on those channels. Better to sell 50MM people all of them than 50MM ESPN and 150,000 FreeForm, right?

Well we're program A and can either take the 5-star or take another 5-star that doesn't have his D2 brother tag along. Plus he's just gonna transfer to OU anyway.

What does ESPN+ get you? All the live sports? Some? None?

ESPN+ does not give you access to the content on the ESPN cable channels. It is a separate streaming network that features a lot of the stuff that used to be free on ESPN3 streaming. They do have some exclusive items such as UFC events and a lot of soccer. I found this list below. The college sports they cover are things like AAC games that arent on ESPN and Ivy League I'm sure there is more, but as of right now none of the A&M games will be on ESPN+ unless we play an AAC team on the road and ESPN decides they dont want it on the main network.

The obscure sports most people don't watch. Completely useless to the vast majority and will never be a real selling point. Of course, now I will get yelled at by the few people on here who are offended by this (true) statement, as apparently I have offended millions of viewers of this programming who claims I am full of it.

I'd say youre spot on. When my wife first saw the Hulu/Disney+/ESPN+ bundle she thought it was the perfect package for us. I hated bursting her bubble by explaining I'd be getting none of the actual teams I watch with that deal.

FYI - fuboTV is going up to $65 for their "family bundle" which compares best to Youtube TV.

They are also removing the Turner family of networks (CNN, TNT, TBS, etc.). I would imagine if they kept them and added the Disney/ESPN/ABC channels, the price would have gone up higher.

https://support.fubo.tv/hc/en-us/articles/360045282551

I don't really watch CNN and the only thing I would miss from TNT/TBS would be NBA games and Shawshank.

Not shocking considering Turner dropped the Champions League. NBA fans may not like losing TNT though.

The evolution of cord cutting appears to be coming full circle, back to where it's just not worth the hassle and what you have to give up in order to save $250/year.

I'm stuck paying suddenlink something like $215/mo and I can't get satellite unless I chop down some trees.

I'd be saving ~$600/yr but that is just because I have not cut the cord yet. I really can't until the new fiber internet provider finishes their construction.

ETA - I've thought about cancelling suddenlink cable but keeping their internet and going up a level to where there is no data cap...but their service drops once or twice a day anyway. Ready to punt.

Looks like for me it will be FuboTV in the summer/fall for Astros and YTTV in the spring for NCAA. The problem is that some of the MLB playoffs are on TBS. Not sure what to do then. Maybe back to YTTV for that month. I think my wife will kill me at that point.

Exactly what I am thinking about doing.

I'm also wondering if i might be able to sign up for free trials during those weird months using my wife's name or something in order to see the NCAAs and then cancel.

I'm basically waiting until the sports actually play, and then go from there. Who knows if contracts/services will be the same when the sports I like actually drop the first puck and throw the first pitch.

Until then, just going as cheap as I can and still get the items deemed critical for marriage to succeed.

And their interface sucks IMO...looks better visually but the functionality I found highly annoying.

The la carte TV dream died before it ever got off the ground

So basically, if you go Hulu Live to save the money, you can't fast forward commercials?? And if you add that feature, it's a penny cheaper than Youtube, only with fewer streams and less channels?
