Got more bad news for you and the 2 that starred this post, Scream got knocked out by Zombieland.

I am about to post all Round 2 results and open up Round 3!

After this round, I will be taking the top 2 from each Region and making a new bracket with them. The 2 movies with the highest % of votes in this round will be receiving a Bye in the next round.

Zombieland is funny but knocking out Scream is egregious.

Alright, here are the Round 2 Results! The closest contest was between the aforementioned Scream and Zombieland. The Bill Murray cameo was enough to give the proverbial edge to Zombieland, and unfortunately Courtney Cox will not be making it to the next round.

Army of Darkness > evil dead
It > Scream

You had the weakest Ash beat the better movie, and the better Ash lose to the 90s version of the brat pack.

Any alternative scenario would make more sense. Both Raimis lose. Both raimis win. Or the It wins, scream loses. All of those are more rational than what occurred.

Absolutely.

Shutter Island over Ex Machina is the real travesty.

Agreed on the first. Army is a more enjoyable film. Evil Dead is horribly dated, but was significant in the genre.

I am Stephen King fanboy, but the modern 'It' was just too damn bloated a film. The slasher genre was all but dead, and the moment the phone caller said "cause I want to know who I'm looking at" to Drew Barrymore's character it was resurrected. Scream is still every bit as watchable today. I haven't even watched It for a second time.

Bale plays the better character and the movie has the better one-liners, but American Pyscho doesn't exactly have much of a plot.

Tremors is a ****ing blast.

So hard to get a read on some of these votes... Scream, Night of the Living Dead and Blair Witch don't get the "genre significance" nod, but Evil Dead which is horribly dated does -- knocking off the best horror film of the last 10 years.

They are stuck on roofs for most of the movie.

This is the problem with not specifying which Evil Dead, because there was a newer version that was well done.

When people are talking about It, I'm talking about the original. The one that kids and teenagers if the 90s where getting nightmares and coulrophobia from. It is probably the most impactful horror film of a generation, yet here it lays slain by a film so poor, most people believed the sequel was a remake.

You're giving It far too much credit calling it the most impactful horror film of its generation. That, again, is Scream. It literally is the reason an entire subgenre of horror still exists. The slasher film was all but dead, and New Nightmare was Craven's first (and mostly failed) attempt to breathe new life into it.

Scream was the one that did it.

This was honestly the best way to run the bracket, the horror genre is filled to the gills with remakes. I didn't want to go through the rabbit hole of picking and choosing what version of a movie I was referring to. If 20 people think old Evil Dead are better than Hereditary, 20 people think new Evil Dead is better than Hereditary, but only 30 think Hereditary is better than either version of Evil Dead, then Evil Dead should move on.

It's your typical "pre-cambrian worms are trying to annihlate everyone in a city and they have to escape".

I love Bale in American Psycho, but there's no plot. I know the whole idea is a critique of consumerism and materialism and it makes for some fun scenes but when you look for an actual plot.... it's simply... not there.

Or 40 of those people should be disqualified from voting because they are dum dums.

Ask yourself why the slasher subgenre was dying. It was a subgenre built on almost exclusively on jumpscares and the suspension of disbelief that no female in America is armed. At least with the supernatural slashers, you have actual helplessness of the protagonists; with human v human slashers the victims are sheep evading a wolf. There is a reason why "scary movie" lampoons scream, human slashers are ridicule worthy.

At your core, you know slashers are the lowbrow subgenre of horror. They are the least thought-provoking type of horror film. But it gets girls panties wet on dates...so best.films.evar.

Halloween seems to be doing awfully well for a subpar genre.

Also, the fact that Scream is parodied by Scary Movie is pretty funny considering that Scream was already a satire of the slasher genre to begin with.

I guess Scream didnt resuscitate the subgenre as previously posited.

The Halloween and Friday the 13th matchup is tough for me.

I love both movies, but Friday the 13th and that whole series holds a special place for me. Not long after I had my first knee surgery more than a decade ago, AMC was running a marathon because it was a Friday the 13th. I stayed up late watching them back to back and it provided some good entertainment in a tough time!

That being said, I still voted for Halloween here. It's just a classic and so well done and spooky.
