Barely fit all that in the title.

So in.

If this is a movie based on the Mark Greaney novels (The Gray Man Series) count me in. I have been a fan for ten years.

FYI - Greaney was the best ghost writer that took over for Tom Clancy after his death. Great writer, and material to make a movie.

Was chatting with a friend and he found another article referencing those books, so it apparently is.

Just trying for James Bond level success, no pressure.

This is the first I've heard of it, btw.

Why is Chris Evans's character cosplaying as Freddie Mercury?

Maybe it will be great, but it looks like about a dozen other similar movies.

I'm sure it'll be entertaining, but yeah, it really does look like Generic Netflix Action Movie Part 10. Without superheroes in costumes, I'm afraid the Russo Brothers brand of loud, bland filmmaking could be a little exposed/underwhelming.

I'm about 3/4 of the easy through a complete re-read of the series in anticipation of the movie. Very excited for this, abs The Terminal List. Two of my favorite book series in the "lone good guy assassin/spy" genre.

It was largely fun.

Chris Evans had a good time chewing scenery as the villain.

So I'm in Ana de Armas' butt.

Haven't watched yet but will this weekend. Looks more John Wick than James Bond in the trailer though.

Pretty much what I expected above. Standard fare, ok for what it was trying to be. Couple of good lines, the Ken doll reference for one. The Prague scene was massively over the top, and there wasn't much of a plot, but wasn't expecting one going in.
And was fun to watch Chris Evans go against type, thought he did well.

He played the naughty role in Scott Pilgrim (as so many did briefly) and in Knives Out, but yeah he really leaned into this. It recalled how Travolta let his freak flag fly in Face/Off, albeit with more comedy for Evans.

For a Netflix movie, this was excellent. Consistent pacing, international scenery and great FX.

Easily set up for a sequel. The long Prague scene was perfectly done.

Perfect summer action flick.

A-

And you thought Mark Lindsay's only hit was, "Arizona"!

(Yup, nobody knows what I'm talking about. Good one, Boomer!)

I have read just about all the books in this series - halfway thru Relentless now - and I give the movie a thumbs up. The airplane scene and the Prague scene were probably over-the-top on believability, but fun to watch. Ryan Gosling would not have been my 1st choice, but I thought he did a great job.

Now if they could just bring Gabriel Allon to the screen.

That was fun and sometimes that's all you want on a Saturday afternoon in the summer

I liked it. Biggest complaint was how dimly lit half of the scenes were, but that seems to be the norm with action film making these days for whatever reason.

I'm also a little gay for Gosling, so there's that.

Evans was great. Gosling was funny when they let him. Between this and the Ryan Reynolds movie, Netflix is doing pretty good with the action stuff recently.

I really liked Chris Evans as the villain. Just the right amount of comedy too.

Man I must be in the minority. I didn't know it was physically possible but this movie sucked and blew at the same time.

It was awful.

Just finished. Thought it was pretty good. I'll definitely watch the sequel if/when it comes out.

Actually made me order the series of books of which this movie was based on.

The CGI in the plane crash scene is horrendous. This cost $200M?

This movie is nothing like the books except that they used some names of characters from them. This isn't close to the Gray Man novels.

I thought it was very MEH. Nothing to see here if franchise is the goal.

I'm 20 minutes in and this movie looks like complete ass. The Russos will forever be legends because of their invaluable contributions to the MCU, but why does so much of everything else they do come off as so generic, vanilla, and store-brand? Everything about this looks and feels like a fake movie, especially due to the flat, digital quality of it all. They might as well have titled this thing Generic Netflix Spy Movie.
oragator
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think it helped that' after the trailer I went in with zero expectations. It was pretty much what I thought it would be.
But I am looking forward to the post after the movie, because outside of Chris Evans it doesn't get better, if anything it gets more towards what you already don't like.
