I doubt this deserves its own spoiler thread, especially since it's based on real-life events, but is everyone okay using spoiler tags here at least through the weekend? I'll probably be watching Saturday night, but would love to be able to read any spoiler-free reactions until then.

Film is a great reminder of the importance of having judges that are non-political and fair. Which, after years of Trump, means we are ****ed.
Automatic DQ on any more of this guy's opinions.

It's at 94% after 154 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes...

Watching either tonight or Sunday night.

Watched it last night. It's been a long week and both the wife and I said we probably had enough energy to watch half of it before we went to sleep. Ended up watching the whole thing.

It's really good. I'm not sure it's amazing. I agree with some of the folks in the tweets posted that from a directing standpoint Sorkin missed a few marks. But the script is great. The cast is great. Everyone In the ensemble has a moment or two that they really shine. And I agree also that the soundtrack is maybe a little heavy handed. Good mix of humor. It definitely will get mixed reactions politically speaking.

Overall I'm glad I watched it straight through. I would recommend it for sure.

I thought this was damn good - great at times, even - but ultimately, I just kept wishing someone besides Sorkin directed it. Despite a couple of weird edits and some slightly off-beat pacing, he does a perfectly serviceable job. It's not that his directing is bad by any means, it's that I kept thinking a better, more experienced director would have taken the whole thing to another level. Sorkin originally wrote it for Spielberg back in '08, and I couldn't help but imagine that version throughout. No doubt an unfair comparison, but the potential is certainly there. Still, as-is, it's highly watchable, and when it sings it truly sings. There are some fantastic sequences and no one does courtroom drama better. It's just a shame that Sorkin turns up the schmaltz a bit here and there, like it's a West Wing episode from '03 or something, and leaves it a bit flat at times as well. But don't let any of that keep you from checking it out. My complaint are super minor in the grand scheme of things, and it's absolutely worth the watch if you're interested. If not the writing, the cast and performances alone sell it.

This is a great movie to fall asleep to so far it is 3 for 3
Just has that perfect tempo and pace to bring you into a satisfactory REM state.
Ranking it number 2 behind Sense and Sensibility of movies that put me too sleep

The only part I truly hated was the egg joke. Just because it was recycled from the West Wing and it comes across as lazy writing. That and it was way better in West Wing.

Political talk for a political movie or TV show? I don't think anyone here has ever had a problem with that. What I, personally, have always railed against is political talk injected into threads for non-political movies or TV shows. Also, when F16ers bring their baggage here and ascribe political or cultural motivations to content they haven't even seen yet (see: the First Man flag debacle, et al.).

The problem is some people can't divorce politics from everything else in the world, so there's no such thing as an apolitical movie subject.

For example:
-Villain in the Muppets movie is an oilman = "Hollywood liberals attack the oil industry!" or
-Chris Pratt has conservative political beliefs = "Most hated Chris in Hollywood and we should boycott his movies!"
