Wow. You're a dedicated pollster. Lots of work.

When I did the best rock album debut poll with 120ish nominees I just did a select your favorite 24. The top 24 made the next round and then it was your top 8 and those 8 made the final round. No one on one matchups at all.

When I did it that way there was some clear differentiation from say the top 24 and the rest. In fact over 40 of the nominations did not receive a single vote - meaning even those that nominated them did not vote for them. And then another 20+ got a sporadic vote or two. Lots of dead weight.

So you could do similar just have the 120 and everyone vote for their favorite 24 say. Take the top 24 and ties the next few to make a 32 round bracket.

But whatever you decide. That just seems overly long and at least 70 of those are not getting anywhere. imho

My overarching purpose on all of these is a fun distraction for myself and those who can tolerate me during the never-ending bull**** of covid19. I am sure there are better ways to do what I'm doing but I would rather stretch out and celebrate this thread's entire catalog. The best star wars moment took 6 weeks to do. I appreciate the insight regardless.

I didn't find this one in the thread. Instrumental movie sound track and timeless music. Truly great stuff.

Miles Davis
"Ascenseur pour l'echafaud"
Generique, Au bar du Petit Bac, Florence sur les Champs-Elysees

Miles and his band watched the movie on screen and created music on-the-spot in real time. An incredible sound track for a French movie. One of his great albums.

I thought about listing that. It's a fantastic album, but I haven't seen the movie, and I'm sure the number of people that have seen it that post on this board is less than 5.

<5 is correct. I've made similar posts (semi-obscure jazz music) and never get stars or responses. Glad you've enjoyed the music. This soundtrack is one of Miles' best.
fwi - I've been pushing current band GoGo Penguin lately, give them a listen (e.g. Hopopono, Weird Cat, Atomized)

I'm looking forward to a more deliberate process where (ideally) voters use the links to compare and contrast the scores. I could be wrong, but my suspicion is that "original score" is a category for which there will be few entrenched favorites. Having links to three tracks from each nomination is key.

How will you decide between nominations for the same score, but with different individual tracks?

Thanks for the GoGo Penguin suggestion. Incredible stuff.

These contests have definitely been the highlight of the board while we get through this damn pandemic. Great idea all around, and thanks again for all the effort you (and Spilner) have put into them.

Hey I did a bracket tourney too! Ha.

Agreed, though.

When this is all over, I think we need a final bracket matching up all the brackets created since March. Film scores versus favorite quotes versus 70's films versus 80's films versus directors, and on and on.

I am definitely considering a "best of everything" tournament that is mostly just nonsense.
