I'm surprised not to see this one on here yet, though the 3rd track isn't one I'd listen to outside of the movie:

2001: A Space Odyssey

1) Also sprach Zathrusta
2) The Blue Danube
3) Requiem for Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, 2 Mixed Choirs and Orchestra
I don't think we're counting music that isn't original score.

Came here to post Man of Steel, but should have known my man TCTTS would already be on it. One of the most slept on movies, IMO.

Dances with Wolves
1. John Dunbar Theme
2. Journey to Fort Sedgewick
3. The Love Theme

And second the Braveheart nod, but For Love of the Princess is the best track.
Add Main Title -- Looks Like a Suicide

And The Buffalo Hunt

Paired with the action, incredible:

Didn't see if this one was mentioned, but Silverado has one of the my all time favorite scores:

Like Fantasia, 2001 would be DQ'ed because the score is not original.

My wife always loved Somewhere in Time. Admittedly a completely sappy piece of cinema. But the music is superb.

John Barry did most of the score and it is really good. But it also has

Rhapsody on a Theme of Paginini - Rachmaninoff

which is just a great classical piece. One of the best short form piano concertos. On the soundtrack it is performed by John Barry.

The movie is definitely worth a view as well. The score serves the film beautifully.

just an unfriendly reminder, if you nominated a movie and didn't list 3 tracks for it, it isn't making the cut.

I noticed that Inception is available on Amazon Prime. I typically watch something on AP while I'm doing my time on the treadmill, so that one was next up this afternoon. (40 minutes on the treadmill, so I have a couple days to actually finish the rewatch). I'd only seen the movie once when it came out theatrically, and had very little recollection of any of it. That score is criminally underrated (by me), and will soon be in my possession.

I feel like I could add a whole lot more to this thread, as movie scores have been the vast majority of my listening via records, cassettes, CDs, and now streaming since my dad brought home the double LP of the original Star Wars score.

I'm at 120 movies with 3 tracks each so I'm going to go ahead and close the nominations.

This is going to be a long contest (TWSS) to maximize your ability to hear everything and minimize me having to cut and paste 360 YouTube links today.

  • Starting this afternoon, I'll select 4 groups of 4 movies with a random # generator.
  • I'll post the groups and the links to each one's 3 tracks on a new thread for the contest.
  • You'll presumably listen and vote for your favorite in each group.
  • The voting window will be 48 hours.
  • Then we'll do 4 more groups. Doing 4 groups every two days will take a couple of weeks and change to knock out the group round.
  • Top 32 soundtracks advance and then it's 1 on 1 matchups.
