They will be back when MLB, the NHL and the NBA return

I assume so as well. If they want to go to the brink that is fine. Ultimately if I turn on YouTube TV to watch Luka and the game is not available, it will be an instant cancellation and subscription to whoever has the Fox RSNs.

Question is how much more will it cost? The reason folks got their product was because the fluff wasn't there originally. Since then it's been added, prices raised from $35 to $60ish, and now no RSN with higher price. Frustrating.

it's that way for all of the streaming. Fubo, Sling, etc. getting more and more expensive. crap forced channels. soon, they will be forcing contracts.

Hopefully that will make room for more competition with new streaming partners.

Content providers are stuck in this model when they have to bundle crap nobody wants with channels they do. At what point does the crap nobody wants just go away? Seems like 90% of the current cable channels could go away and no one would care.

YTTV knows no one watches these channels during the offseason. The only thing on FSSW between now and when the Mavs/Stars atart up will be the UIL Football championships. I can borrow a login for those if needed...

Still some college football there. Not any SEC, so no Ags impact, but if you're used to firing up the TV on Saturday and watching all the games, you may be missing some ACC games and a few B12 games. Doesn't really change your point that the primary driver is mlb/nba/NHL, though.

We are gonna basically get back to where we were with cable/sat.

Will still have some advantages over old model (for now):

1. Can cancel if you don't like it.
2. Weather won't disrupt live tv like it did with satellite.
3. Your mom.

Feels like we are months away from YTTV offering us a better price with a 2 year contract.

Thinking about switching to Fubo. Irks me they don't have TNT/TBS though.

i have never understood what the purpose of tbs or tnt or usa are. do we really need dedicated channels showing re-runs of old shows and edited versions of old movies?

You've never watched a movie on one of those channels just because it happened to be on? I have, plenty of times.

They also have original scripted shows. And then of course there's the NBA on TNT. Oh, and March Madness.

MLB playoffs, NBA reg season and playoffs, March madness (including final 4), some golf, some original programming, and some people like dropping in for a law and order marathon or a couple of Seinfeld episodes, or their annual viewing of fletch type movies.

no, not really. i don't really ever go to them, except for sporting events, but that doesn't really justify the existence of an entire channel, to me.

i don't like watching movies with commercials, or with content cut out of them.

I am curious what the market would be for a streamer of only sports channels along with the dual channels like TNT and TBS.

Local channels, Sports channels, Hallmark channels, FX channels, Discovery, and Comedy Central. Done.

Price accordingly for just those channels and any streaming service could immediately win the business of a majority of tv streamers. But will probably never happen.

People forget the origins of cable (pay) tv was channels that didn't have commercials. You already paid for the programming.

The whole system is crap.
Too many channels that only exist because they are bundled with channels people actually want.
Instead of having to eliminate the dead weight, the parent companies continue to operate these channels by forcing the costs onto bundles for channels people do want. Meanwhile these same channels still sell advertising ( which is how OTA channels make ends meet)...

The whole thing seems like a huge scam to me.

I don't watch these channels much in the offseason, however one thing I noticed in a follow-up tweet is YTTV says you will also lose access to all DVR content from these channels. That's bush league if the content was recorded prior to the contract expiration.

Would very much suck if they ever have a spat with a channel I really care about like ESPN or CBS...

I think it's messed up too. That sort of thing wouldn't happen with a traditional DVR.

I happened to notice that the YTTV channel guide listed 'Washington Football Team at Cleveland Browns' last Sunday.

So woke. So strong. So brave (no racist pun intended). Sorry, I'll take that comment back. Not that I'm an Indian giver, I just mean...uh-oh, now I have some serious reservations about what Staff night do. Dangit, I need to stop typing.

Actually, I did not. Side effect of no longer watching the NFL, I guess. Darn.

This may have more to do with Sinclair buying Fox RSNs as they are probably jacking up the price to recoup what they spent. Since there is a clear break in any pro sports on the RSNs for a few months, it makes sense for google to not want to pay the rights fee's for these channels that almost no one will be watching.

There it is. I'm not sure you're allowed to stop watching the NFL unless you tell everyone you've stopped watching the NFL.

The irony of the FS channels being cut by YTTV is that they did this because they don't want to pay for them and I guess some of the content it would normally show is out of season.

This is the exact model the consumer wants with a la carte that we can't seem to get.
