I probably should have put this in the Star Wars thread, but I'm curious at what age did you introduce your kids to Star Wars?

My son is 6 and I'm thinking of introducing him to Star Wars pretty soon. Is 6 too early?

I showed all of them to my daughter at 5. She's 6 now and loves them.

I was 4 in 1977. First movie I ever saw and it was at the drive-in.

It's never too early.

My son has seen most of New Hope at 4, but it's a bit long for him. if you have Disney+, and what parent these days doesn't, maybe check out some of the Legos Star Wars shorts. It's a good way to introduce the universe without seeing arms chopped off.

In utero. Get them familiar with the soundtrack at least.

I saw Star Wars at 3-1/2.

Let my daughters watch a few parts (Yoda, Jawas, etc.) when they were 3. Just show them some parts on YouTube to to gauge interest. Don't let them watch the Phantom Menace first at all costs.

Our seven year old has only seen Eps. 4-6 so far. I think he did A New Hope at five and then the next two at age six. Well probably do Eps. 1-3 in the next year or two (he really hasn't asked for them much as he's in a Spider-man phase currently).

We're probably on the more conservative side of the spectrum when it comes to kids and TV/movies.

With my son, he saw the OT by 4 or 5, and got to see all the PT in theatres. By the time my daughter came along, the PT had just concluded, but I'd say she was no more than 4 when I first introduced her to the OT. She got to see TPM 3-D release in 2011-2012, can't recall which year, and then all of the ST as well as the Star Wars Story movies.

IMO, there is only one order to watch these movies:

[Rogue One], A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, Solo. If you elect to not being with R1, then that one can go prior to Solo.

Interesting.

I think with you g kids i'd go tpm, aotc, though it would be cool to edit them down some. Then about the top 30 clone wars episodes, rots, about the top 10 episodes of rebels, r1, anh, esb, rotj. Then mandalorian. Thats it. Tfa had a nice character, pretty scenes and music, but there is no point to it and i would never show the last 2.

My oldest (6, almost 7) saw the first 3 when he was 4.5. He was obsessed before even seeing them. I no lie choked up some reading the opening scroll, and I am not even a massive SW nerd. But it just seemed like a big moment. I took him to see Empire Strikes Back at the Meyerson when he was 5 where they showed the movie while the Dallas Symphony Orchestra played the music. He dressed up as Anakin from the prequels but mainly because that was the costume he liked best.

My oldest thinks episode one is the best Star Wars movie. I obviously went wrong somewhere.

My 7yr-old and I started playing the old Battlefront 2 gamethe one from 2005. So he's now interested in watching all the movies. We are going in order of the storyI think thats how Disney+ has them laid out. We've watched I and II so far and he really liked AotC.

Here's the order I'm thinking of:

A New Hope
Empire
TPM
ATC
Sith
R1
ANH
Empire
Return
TFA
Solo
TLJ
Rise

Then a bit of a free for all with Clone Wars/Movies, then Rebels/Movies, then Mando/Movies, finally whatever-new-series/new movies.

Lego Star Wars before kicking off this official watch through, too. I feel like kicking off the watch through at 5 yrs old makes sense, but will play the start by ear.

When my son was 3-4, he loved them. Now at 6, he doesn't care for Star Wars at all. It's all Pokemon and Garfield.

4. He got it way more than I expected.

My first was about 4. He had a foam bathtub puzzle that stuck to the walls that looked like the Death Star when finished. I would quote the Emperor's "fully operational" taunt every time he finished it. He finally asked what I was talking about, and we watched A New Hope. It took a couple of sittings, but he liked it. Unfortunately, he has never taken the time to watch more than half of Empire in the next 5 years.

My Order:

ANH
Empire
Jedi
Rogue
Solo
Force
Last Jedi
Rise

And then if he can find some time when I'm not around and figure out the changed Disney+ password:
Phantom
Clones
Sith

I saw anh at age 7.

It is still what makes it all magic. Probably should put it first.

Id like to find an edit of the prequels - tpm, aotc, first half of rots, that cuts some of the crap and gets it down to about 3-4 hours total, tops.

I liked rots alot, but honestly the key clone wars episodes really make the last half of that movie so much better.

Part of the genius of r1 is that it actually makes anh even better, but i just dont think it should be the first movie a kid sees.

Thanks for all y'all's input!

I'm probably going to have him watch soon.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to start with OT.

My 4-year-old just watched some of Ep4-5 for the first time.

Got him started with the Lego Star Wars shows on Disney+ this past year. They're actually really well done, not too intense and there's funny references to the original movies for the adults.

I was contemplating whether to wait on the original trilogy but I gave in.

He's REALLY into Star Wars now. Big time. It's fun to see.

I didn't realize those were still around. Thought Garfield disappeared in the '80s and Pokmon in the 2000's.

There's a new 2000's Garfield show and Pokmon is bigger than Star Wars and Marvel.

My main worry about showing my kids any Star Wars stuff before the movies is the big "I AM YOUR FATHER" reveal getting spoiled. Maybe I'm overvaluing it, but does that happen in LEGO Star Wars?

Definitely was in the Lego Christmas special that just came out... but 95% of that would make no sense before seeing all of the movies.

My son was 3 or 4 when he started watching episode 1 and 2. I think he was 5 when episode 3 came out but we made him wait a couple years before watching that one because it was a little darker than the others.
