Rewatched this with kids this week and was really struck by the star power, even rebecca de mornay. Hell even the theme song that runs through the film is Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, and Sting. For such a film filled with known commodities and a well known story by Alexander Dumas, they a good job for what is basically a kids movie for young action.
The one thing that really missed with me is the love story between D'artagnan and the queens handmaiden. He meets her, has 4 lines of dialogue, then he goes about his adventure and she tosses him his sword in the final encounter with the evil henchman.
Maybe I'm just old, but the love theme seemed forced. And it gets reinforced by the song whose primary chorus is "Now it's all for one and all for love. It's all for love." Like the story is about king and country, but they force romance as the primary theme.
