Rewatched this with kids this week and was really struck by the star power, even rebecca de mornay. Hell even the theme song that runs through the film is Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, and Sting. For such a film filled with known commodities and a well known story by Alexander Dumas, they a good job for what is basically a kids movie for young action.

The one thing that really missed with me is the love story between D'artagnan and the queens handmaiden. He meets her, has 4 lines of dialogue, then he goes about his adventure and she tosses him his sword in the final encounter with the evil henchman.

Maybe I'm just old, but the love theme seemed forced. And it gets reinforced by the song whose primary chorus is "Now it's all for one and all for love. It's all for love." Like the story is about king and country, but they force romance as the primary theme.

Wasnt bad, but the 1970's version was a truly unique, subtly hilarious, and far better masterpiece. Faye dunaway, raquel welch, and all. You should really watch that one. Michael york. Christopher lee. Charleton heston. The dude from shogun, dont remember his name. Absolutely brilliant.

The D'Artangan romances have to be the hardest adaptation of all time. They are such classics, but how they were written and published as serials makes faithfully bringing them to the screen almost impossible. That and D'Artangan is often sort of a comical character (at first, anyway) who falls into good luck over and over.

The romance between D'artagnan and the sister of the hometown brothers is more developed and she isnt even given any screen time.

Cool story bro. Years ago friend and I were in Venice and Kiefer Sutherland walks right by us. It wasn't "that guy kind of looks like Kiefer Sutherland" it was "That's Kiefer Sutherland!!" This is way pre-Jack Bauer KS, more like Lost Boys KS. We stalk for a block or two when he and his friend sit outside at a cafe. We walk up and introduce ourselves and he couldn't have been nicer. Said he and his buddy were taking a little vacation from filming a movie in Austria. We didn't even notice his friend. The movie they were filming was Three Musketeers and his friend was Oliver Platt. This is also pre cell phones so no pics.

Loved this movie as a kid, and it still holds up today. Fun and entertaining, but it doesn't take itself too seriously.

Kiefer, Sheen, Platt, and O'Donnell were great together. Tim Curry is a fantastic villain.

My favorite Platt performance by far. He was perfect for Porthos.

He is just chewing the scenery the entire film and everyone just adores it. Just like kate Blanchett in ragnorak
