Disagree - Quint's USS Indianapolis Story vs. "You Can't Handle The Truth!" is just terrible. Those are two of my favorite individual scenes in film.

^THIS....

Quint's story - which also happens to be true, not that the actor was there but still historically it was true - so good. It's one of the longest buildup and most quietly intense moments in a "horror" film and just gives such depth to that character and film. As a kid (9 when Jaws came out) I remembered the graphic scenes the most, as an adult this scene is easily my favorite.

*aside - come to think of it Jaws should have qualified as a WWII film for that tournament - as much WWII related as some movies that are included.

Nicholson's ranting seething frothing at the mouth disparaging purge - got him an Oscar nom in about 20 minutes of screen time. It makes that entire movie - without it, it is a rather bland courtroom drama. He was on set for 10 days, in only 3 scenes and paid $5M. Worth every penny.

And Peter's dumb dance in GOTG is also pretty damn great.

toughest group by far for me for the entire 45 groups over 9 days.

It's early, but Col Jessup can't handle the Quint.

The USS Indy speech is my favorite scene in any movie or tv show. That was an easy pick.
ditto. Jaws will always be in my top 5 and even though it's not an action scene, it's so perfectly done and i'm glued to the scene.

i will say that USS indy speech is rivaled by interstellar docking scene as a favorite on any given day.

my family has been in an apartment during a remodel for 5 months and in late January my family got quarantined so we took the time to watch a ton of our favorite movies. in between Christmas and today we have watched It's a wonderful life, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Interstellar, Arrival, Casino Royale, Castaway, Dark Knight, Les Miserables, Endgame, watched all of the Sherlock series, and started Lost with my kids.

my movie nerd heart has been filled.

Yall missed the real hardest one this round:

Killing a Toyota on Top Gear
vs
Neve Campbell and Denise Richards in the pool in Wild Things
vs
When Travolta accidentally shoots Marvin in the face in Pulp Fiction

I'd take all three over anything in Star Wars.

I feel like we missed a real opportunity in the Morbidly Obese Bib Fortuna's Group to combine two of the entries together:

Fat Bib Fortuna
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The missed opportunity is putting "Your the Best Around" behind Luke's appearance in the Mandalorian.

It is the very definition of my nerdom how eagerly I am awaiting closing the voting and seeding the tournament tonight.

Will cap the voting for the last group around 11 or 12 so get your votes in. Will drop the Round of 64 around midnight or later.

The final round of Group picks has ended!

Our last set of group winners are:

Darth Maul's duel with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan in The Phantom Menace

"I am Iron Man" - Avengers: Endgame

Neve Campbell and Denise Richards in the pool in Wild Things

Luke Skywalker's appearance on The Mandalorian

The night scene on the boat in Jaws where Quint tells them about the USS Indianapolis

If you're a night owl, give me about an hour to seed this thing and I'll be back to launch the Round of 64.

That said, this surely feels like the pinnacle of all I can contribute to TexAgs.

This is the feeling right now at Casa de Fortuna.

Hell I feel that way about 2/3 of these matchups. There were plenty of things in the 180 entries that were great but not awesome. Seems like we have 64 awesome things left - or 40+ at least. It does cover everything so that makes sense.

Here is another brutal one - the best movie moment ever on film and maybe the most jaw dropping TV moment ever. Arghhhhh

#5 Opening Battle from Saving Private Ryan
vs
#12 The Red Wedding on GOT

With only minor alterations, Tyrion could say a lot of George's dialogue and vice versa

(After Tywin takes over as Hand of the King) "My name is Tyrion. I'm unemployed and I live with my parent."

If Whoring Tyrion walks through this door, he will kill Hand of the King Tyrion! A Tyrion, divided against itself, cannot stand!"

Crazy Joe Davola: "How would you like to die, George, son of Frank?"
George: "In my own bed, at the age of 80, with a belly full of shrimp, ensconced in velvet."

I found Marvel's returns a little underwhelming. I think as hardcore as it's discussed here, if you didn't watch every single movie, which is a task on its own, the payoff on the end game moments is diminished somewhat. Star Wars' best seeds are the OT which are pushing 40-45 years of memory at this point.

You think nobody has watched SW for 40+ years?

I watched it 2 weeks ago for the 300th time I think - the full movie start to end. And I watched ESB last night.

40-45 years of "memories"

There are currently 7 lower seeds winning out of 32. Several are not just winning, but dominating.

Only 1 entry is above 90%, a few others above 80%.
