Maleficent I think you can kind of make a story about and create a semi-sympathetic character. I'd say it's tough to make a sympathetic figure out of a character whose sole aim is to SKIN PUPPIES IN ORDER TO MAKE FUR COATS.Quad Dog said:

This is either going to be a disaster or score Emma Stone another Oscar nomination. I tend to think it will suck, but who knows.
I think I'm ok with this type of Disney live action. Haven't been a fan of the live action films that just tell the exact story that the cartoons did. Today's kids are more Pixar, anyway. Give us adults some dark Disney villain origin stories.

I could be about that, but make it a rated R movie. Most of the live action remakes have been terrible. It took an entire bottle of wine for me to get through the live action Lion King.Average Joe said:

I actually love the look, production design, cinematography, etc - and the Joker comparison above is spot on - but I watch this trailer and have zero idea what the plot of the movie is. I mean, I obviously know who Cruella de Vil is, but I could not tell you a single thing about what the final product might entail. She's a crazy person who... crashes parties?
I get the feeling they are going to set up the idea that she has been plotting to make a Dalmatian coat for years. I personally would like a full back story to how she became powerful without a dog heavy story line but throw the Dalmatian part in at the end to show her like pushing the fashion envelope and that would tie into 101

Right. I just don't remember her *wanting* to kill them. My surprise comes more from Disney, of all companies, rebooting a character whose goal is to kill and skin dogs. That just seems insane to me. I can't stand PETA, but it seems like they would have this movie/character in their sights from day one. For that reason alone, it seems not worth the headache.

Ha, in my mind, I remember her as some old rich woman who *really* liked Dalmatians, to the point where she owned a hundred and one of them, but was otherwise just a mean person who did mean things to other people. I seriously have zero recollection of her wanting to murder dogs.

Dammit. I wish you hadn't learned this from us and had gone into a new rewatching of the movie with this understanding. And of course filmed your realization of her devilry.
