It is also based on his experiences touring with rock bands like Poco, The Allman Brothers and Lnyyrd Skynyrd

I gave you the Cliff's Notes version....but Frampton was the musical consultant for the film. Yes, Crowe toured with Zep but guess who wrote the liner notes to Frampton Comes Alive (if you're a certain age it was practically mandatory to own this album)....none other than Cameron Crowe.

The writers of Stillwater's songs were Frampton, Ann and Nancy (for obvious reasons) Wilson. The real lead guitarist behind Russell Hammond of Stillwater? Mike McCready of Pearl Jam. Nancy played rhythm on the actual recordings as well.

Technically you are correct, Scrantonicity played Phyllis' wedding. Kevin later left thag band and formed Scrantonicity II. The attached video is Scrantonicity II but the original did perform on the show

As for the Dan Band.... I'm including it as an exception if you like. My reasons are:

1. it was created as a comedy lark, from karaoke, and mostly for comedic purposes even before the movies so it was always for comedic effect
2. the main person in the group Dan Finnerty was an actor with several TV and film credits before creating The Dan Band
3. their appearances in various films across different decades are obviously fictionalized
4. they are just too good to exclude
