No Gorillaz?

Really?

Gorillaz does not qualify.

It was a real band with non actor musicians just they choose to be represented by animated characters.

They are what is called a "virtual band" not a fictional band.

that does not explain tenacious D or Monkees, who also toured. they included real enough artists and songwriters to qualify as bands.

but I will drop it.

your list, your thread.
I get it. But the difference is.

Tenacious D and The Monkees were bands created with ACTORS for a fictional show. Their first released product was the show.

Gorillaz was a band created by MUSICIANS that first released a musical product (an EP) and then built a virtual world around it in terms of cartoon videos.

So Actors not musicians and a fictional TV product before any musical release.

Technicality maybe but I did consider them.

There's definitely a gray area. I'm not sure I'd call The Monkees a fictional band considering they made albums and toured. The act of actually making music, selling the music and then touring around the world playing the music no longer makes them fictional.

That's a shame. Not sure how the movie holds up but it's a great movie.

right but their origin was purely fictional.

that is my main criteria and they must have an actor in a prominent band role. All the Monkees were actors that were cast in a role for a fictional TV band.

The fact that they hit it big and became legit is irrelevant. I think all fictional bands (in origin) strive for that or comic relief maybe.

Those are two of my all time, guilty pleasure favorite movies.

Wait.....you mean EATC 2: Eddie Lives.

LMAO

I recalled sort of that there was a sequel but it bombed I think compared to the original.

It did bomb. Still loved it. Still had a great soundtrack.

ya'll disappointed me.....the early upsets did not last; very few and all were movies over TV.

111 to 50

19 Eddie and the Cruisers DEFEATED Saved by the Bell 14

LOST beat Crazy Heart by 1 vote

OK on to the second round. And this round is gonna cause so much consternation - I can't even decide on like 8 of the 16 matchups. The pretenders are gone and I think we will have several close ones.

Second Round is open

Such is my luck that two match ups have what I think should be the 4 finalists.

I mean, objectively, Stillwater, Wonders, Jack and Alley and Eddie and the Cruiser should win.

The whole ****ing movie is based on the band.

But you guys suck.

And Rock Star

Honestly my favorite - I legit have several Steel Dragon songs in my 80s Rock playlist (I know when the movie was made but the sound is 80s rock and the movie was set in the 80s).

The guys in the band that made the Steel Dragon music included:
Jason Bonham - son of John who played for LZ among many others
Jeff Pilson (Dokken and Foreigner)
Zakk Wylde (Ozzy)
Mike Matijevic (Steelheart)

And for the original singer it was Jeff Scott Soto who has sung for Yngwie Malmsteen, Talisman and Journey among others.

And The Commitments too.

A bunch of Irish actors/musicians who played every note and sung every song most live not in a studio. They didn't even make it out of qualifying round. Also a great movie.

Well maybe this vote will introduce some legit bands to some people who did not know about them.
Lots of discussion about Eddie and the Cruisers yesterday - John Cafferty (and the Beaver Brown Band).

I might list them later if I have time. I just wanted to get 2nd round voting going. And I'll do it for the later rounds it was just a lot for 32 matchups.

Honestly, if you mark all questions required, when people haven't seen stuff they'll just vote for the top seed.

Like these were my top pics.

EuroTrip because it has the best song.

That sound track of Eddie and the Cruisers is amazing.

I realize that not everyone is my age so my tastes are different. And it seems like the bulk of this board is about 10 years younger or more years younger than me. Except for you. I'm guessing you're about 3 years older than me.

Kinda makes it hard to actually know which ones are "legitimate" wins and which ones won just due to throwaway votes. Especially in the closer votes.

But hey, it's your tourney.

I undid the requirement for now.

I just think it causes less confusion to have the number of votes equal. And also helps if you from skipping one you cannot decide but forgetting to go back and mark it.

Part of it stemmed from the prelim round where I allowed up to 20.....some people voted for 19 in one of the groups and 1 in the other group despite it being pretty clear. But the form did not have the ability to require 20 in each just a min or a max. In multiple choice I opted to make them required and I think enough vote for underdogs as favorites in those cases.

I think we are getting down to where most of them are known to most. The other side was that requiring them I hoped might make people go seek them out and check them out via a quick google search.

Anyway.
