All previously mentioned and all worthy of consideration:
Thunderstruck
Sweet Emotion
Won't Get Fooled Again
Sweet Child of Mine

Not mentioned:

The initial part of the drum intro sounds like an idling engine with high compression and a crazy cam in it.

Obviously not the best, but I love this one...

One comment I read on this video was awesome. I can't find it, but it was something like:

Director: Damn it, they're all stuck in traffic and I have to get this equipment back in 30 minutes or they're going to nail my card for another $3k. Hey, Derrick, can you dance?

Derrick: Sort of.

Director: Get over here....

Certainly not the best, but I'd argue that Sweet Home Alabama is probably the most iconic and recognizable.

Another vote for Sweet Child of Mine. We used it on a video announcing the first of our preemie twins had come home from the hospital after 126 days in the NICU.

Clearly if you're an Arrested Development fan, you know the real answer though.

I Need A Lover by John Mellencamp (was probably going by Cougar back then...) deserves a mention.

VH's "Intruder" (intro to Pretty Woman) would be my "walking in from the bullpen" music if I were a closer.

Man, rock music used to be so creative and awesome. What the heck happened to 20-something white guys that they can't produce songs like that any more?

We need some skinny unathletic kids to put down the Doritos and the X Box controller, pick up a guitar and head to the garage with a few buddies. That's how great music is born. And that's how you meet chicks.

Money for nothing and the chicks for free.

Tame Impala and Billie Eilish's brother are basically the only ones left. Hip hop has incorporated a lot of rock into it the past few years though.

To get out of the 70's and 80's, I can't think of any that are more memorable than this in recent years. You make that opening sound anywhere and people know immediately what you are referencing:

After much consideration, I have decided to re-open this thread to include:

The way it builds, starting with just rhythm guitar and Axl, adds drums followed shortly by Duff's bass line, then Slash's guitar work and finally the the police whistle to bump the tempo up- this is how rock anthems are made.

Always liked the intro for "Your Soul Is A Pilot". The rest of the song doesn't live up, but the opening 0:35 is great.

Another great intro, but the song doesn't quite deliver on the promise.

Texans used to play this at their home games to get the crowd all hyped up before the inevitable let down.

not quite an intro to a song, but an intro to nearly every concert of 40 years by the best metal band of our lifetime.

Any metallica fan can attest, this song is like Pavlov's dogs for sure.

It just hit me watching this that James Hetfield is what Chris Hemsworth is going to look like in 20 years.

That's not even the best intro by The Cult, much less of all time. I'd put both of these ahead of that:

It was sad watching them get inducted and play this at their RRHOF induction without Squire but it was a great nod when they had Geddy play the bass line.
