I've got one that tops all of these actually even AC/DC.

Consistency in
sound
quality
and lineup

ZZ TOP

50+ years with one lineup, one sound, and high quality (imho)

Last studio album was 9 years ago but they have had a Live album and a 50 year collection released since in 2016 and 2019 respectively.

First album was 1971 they formed in 1969 with a couple of other guys and Gibbons but the current lineup has been the same since the first album: Gibbons, Hill and Beard.

You must not remember the 80s. Adding synths/keys to a rock band that went 10 years without them is NOT being consistent.

Sorry.. ac/dc takes the consistency cake. They never dabbled in any other sounds, even during the 80s.

I remember it and you could quibble about that but

a. it still sounded like ZZ Top
b. it was still blues based southern rock

AC/DC had 2 distinct sounds to me because I also remember the 70s so even if they did not have synthesizers they had Bon Scott era and Brian Johnson era - both great. They also had many other lineup changes over the years.

ZZ top has them in longevity overall and in consistent lineup. To me overall ZZ Top is the most consistent band for 50 years.

Most bands had that synth era....
VH
Rush
even Iron Maiden and Judas Priest

Kudos to AC/DC for holding out though.

yeh the 80s sound sucked in nearly every rock band. Exceptions that come to mind are american thrash.. and ac/dc.

AC/DC line-up is pretty consistent considering 40+ years and 2 deaths of core members.

And honestly, to the very casual listener (myself included), I can't even tell the difference between Bon and Brian. They pretty sound exactly the same.

nothing like roth/hagar

Turnpike troubadours is the only artist that there's not a single song I skip.

I just recently realized this, too. Literally no duds or even "meh" songs in their entire collection. Sure hope they make music again!
