After watching season 1 I was hooked, watched all the seasons a couple of times and I also watch the races when I have the chance. I've never been someone who watches races off any kind. Drive to Survive changed that. I still don't watch NASCAR, nor do I plan too. If you haven't gotten to it yet in season 3, episode 9 they cover the race in Abu Dhabi when Romain Grosjean crashed and his car exploded into flames. I was watching that race when it happened. I had forgotten how long he was in the car, it's a legit miracle he not only survived but also sustained fairly minimal injuries all things considered. Episode 10 they cover the second race in Abu Dhabi that Sergio Perez started in last and won the race and was literally racing for his career. Racing Point (now Aston Martin) had decided to not renew his contract and signed Sebastian Vettel to take his place.
It's really interesting to watch the difference between how the top and bottom teams are run. Mercedes juxtaposed with Haas is night and day in their operations. Mercedes has the best car, the best drivers, tons of money. Haas is the sole American team, taking the drivers they can get, and mainly worrying about sponsorship dollars. Several teams have drivers that skirt the line between being talented but also having families with huge money behind them. The only reason Mazepin is at Haas is because his father's company in Russia is their main sponsor now. Perhaps the only reason Latifi is with Williams is his family money. Both Canadian drivers, Stroll and Latifi, come from families with huge money. Contrast that with Lewis Hamilton, arguably the best driver of all time, who came from basically nothing, I think his dad was a small time mechanic and put everything into helping Lewis become a racer.
The show is great, I recommend it to everyone.
