Anyone else addicted to this?

I watched an episode of this documentary series after hearing this recommended and can't stop watching. I've never even watched an F1 race nor know anything about the rules, but the driver personalities, team dynamics and gamesmanship are compelling.

I binged it all back in March and now i'm all in on F1. Hurry up and finish it and you can start watching races, this season has been very entertaining so far. Monaco next weekend.

There is also a Formula 1 thread over on the Other Sports board.

After watching season 1 I was hooked, watched all the seasons a couple of times and I also watch the races when I have the chance. I've never been someone who watches races off any kind. Drive to Survive changed that. I still don't watch NASCAR, nor do I plan too. If you haven't gotten to it yet in season 3, episode 9 they cover the race in Abu Dhabi when Romain Grosjean crashed and his car exploded into flames. I was watching that race when it happened. I had forgotten how long he was in the car, it's a legit miracle he not only survived but also sustained fairly minimal injuries all things considered. Episode 10 they cover the second race in Abu Dhabi that Sergio Perez started in last and won the race and was literally racing for his career. Racing Point (now Aston Martin) had decided to not renew his contract and signed Sebastian Vettel to take his place.

It's really interesting to watch the difference between how the top and bottom teams are run. Mercedes juxtaposed with Haas is night and day in their operations. Mercedes has the best car, the best drivers, tons of money. Haas is the sole American team, taking the drivers they can get, and mainly worrying about sponsorship dollars. Several teams have drivers that skirt the line between being talented but also having families with huge money behind them. The only reason Mazepin is at Haas is because his father's company in Russia is their main sponsor now. Perhaps the only reason Latifi is with Williams is his family money. Both Canadian drivers, Stroll and Latifi, come from families with huge money. Contrast that with Lewis Hamilton, arguably the best driver of all time, who came from basically nothing, I think his dad was a small time mechanic and put everything into helping Lewis become a racer.

The show is great, I recommend it to everyone.

Seconded, never really had an interest before and we're now all in on this season and have tickets to the Austin race this fall.

Also may have a chance to come out the track earlier in the week and visit the McLaren pit during practice, fingers crossed.

You know there's a spoiler tag, right? People who aren't into F1 don't necessarily know about the Phoenix.

Do you need any friends? I will be at the race as well.

Been watching F1 since the 80s. I remember back when it was on ABC's Wild World of Sports.

I always felt a little bitter that they brought F1 to Austin after I moved away. I've been fortunate to be able to attend a few other F1 races though.

Glad to see this series generating some interest in the sport.

I was hooked the first minute of season 1 when Netflix was interviewing Danny Ric. The honey badger is a heck of a driver and I've been following him ever since. never watched an F1 race until after binging the Netflix season 1 doc. I'm hooked now.

Awesome show.

Have my tickets for this years race in Austin (seat is on Turn 9) attended all races in Austin since the inaugural in '12.

Attended the '84 race at Dallas' Fair Park yes, it was HOT.

If I remember correctly the pavement was coming up in places during that Dallas race because it was so hot.

Yes, the track was falling apart.

If memory serves, the race was shortened ~10 laps a compromise to flat out cancelling the race.

My favorite driver, Nigel Mansell passed out pushing his stalled / no fuel car across the finish line to place 4th

Alain Prost's car had a nose cone with an inlet to feed a water cooler / radiator.

That race had a who's who of F1 driver greatness.

Got hooked on this as well and have now started to watch F1.
The episode 'Man on Fire' in season 3 was amazing. The stories told for Grosjean and Perez in that episode were great.

Same, same, with all of the replies. Fantastic show that has given me a new sport to watch and follow that I never knew I needed. Inject it into my veins.

S3:E9 is one of the best episodes of any Netflix show... fiction or non-fiction. Can't recommend the show enough.

A good Aggie that works for Netflix was a major part of the project and ensured it was brought to air and completed. Also did the same for the Last Dance with Jordan. Another reason to watch.

I've even started watching some Indycar, mostly just because Grosjean is racing.

I binged this series over the last week. It is freaking fantastic.

I couldnt care less about racing before this show. Now I find myself reading up on this season, and trying to record races if their on TV.

I might have even Sports-Teared up when Pierre Gasly won the race with AlphaTauri at the Italian Grand Prix.

I'm also planning on going to COTA this year now.

Anyone know how the new spending cap has affected teams this year?

I'm curious if this will actually create parity, or if the larger teams still have built in advantages financially.
