So something minor, but which was never clear. Was Will actually of royal blood, or was the Prince just making up the story because he thought him being imprisoned was BS?

He made it up. He told Will that he was impressed by his knightly character and was going to repay the favor. He made a point to tell the crowd that his word was "beyond contestation." In other words "don't fact check me."

Wow this makes me feel old. I remember seeing it in the theater my junior year of high school.

First time I discovered Paul Bettany. He killed it as Geoffrey Chaucer.

This is still the movie I associate with Bettany.

Sure he's good and fine in everything else, but this is where he really made me laugh.

There was a real Sir Ulrich con Lichtenstein, by the way. I think he wrote some courtly poetry and such in the same era as the movie.

I completely forgot, my username came from this movie.

I changed my name from something else because I felt like my old username had a lot of baggage, everyone knew who I was, and I wanted to reboot with anonymity. So... Ulrich seemed appropriate.

I only recently found that out as well. I always just thought it was the writers being cheeky. Same with Gelderland. Thought it was made up. Nope. Real place in the Low Countries.

Going down the rabbit hole of some other cast. Alan Tudyk, who played the redhead, isn't British. He was born in El Paso and grew up in Plano. I had no idea. I know he's been in a ton of other stuff but for some reason I thought he was British.

He voices Clayface and Joker in the Harley Quinn animated show on HBO Max (and kills it), and is also the villain/fourth wall breaking narrator Mr. Nobody in Doom Patrol on HBO Max (also kills it).

They even make a joke in Doom Patrol that he's off doing some animated thing

God, I love this movie so much. I always wanted to be a knight in the high medieval romantic tradition. I get seriously weepy with the reunion with dad and the royal decree of nobility.

The anachronism works so well because the movie doesn't take itself too seriously. Its like the Nick Cage gone in 60 seconds in that regard.

WE WALK. IN THE GARDEN. OF HIS TURBULENCE.

I break that line out in casual conversation as often as possible.
