I'll let Hercules explain my reaction:

I enjoyed it.

A slasher movie with elements of the supernatural and serial killer zombies, I like it.

The feelings of Nostalgia it brought up with the awesome sound track and places things took place were worth it alone! And the next one is all about horror at a summer camp? Count me in for sure!

Half the songs were from after 1994, and AOL was not a thing in 1994.

Still, enjoyed it for what it was.

Part two came out yesterday, and I find it to be much better than the first. It was great having a break from the whiny protagonist in part one. Unfortunately it looks like she will be back to her leading role in part three.

I don't know what you are talking about. The first one was a solid horror film

I thought 94 was good and worth the time to watch. If you like deep cut 90's music, classic teenage slasher film, with possession themes. This is for you. I didn't think they over rotated on nostalgia like other recent movies. The only thing that I didn't think was needed to the level they went to was the girls love story. But other than that pretty good and will watch 78 this weekend.

78 took way too long to get going, but I still enjoyed it.

Haven't seen the movie yet, so maybe I'm missing something. But aol was definitely around then.

AOL existed then

Prodigy was bigger, but AOL certainly existed. Depending on the source, it was around since 85 or so.

Edit. Company changed it's name to AOL in 89.

It wasn't commonplace yet, much less in a small town.

Did anyone here have it in 1994? I'd bet not many.

I had a more refined palate than you in 1994. And I was 6.

I still have 6 cds for about 360 minutes of AOL if anyone's interested.

AOL was incredibly widespread by 1994. Had over a million users.

And pretty much any household with a tech-savvy youngster had it.

In 1994? Yes, but i was the nerdy kid who was running wardialers and frequenting underground bulletin boards.

A million users in 1994 for an online service was a lot. Any "computer kid" - like the one in the movie - had it. He even said in the movie he wasnt paying for it.

Fun fact - AOL in that era was where the term 'phishing' orginated.

As for the movie - thought it was a good timewaste. Not really scary and nothing we haven't seen before in a dozen other movies but it knew what it was. Kind of that segway for the younger generation between Goosebumps -> Stranger Things -> Fear Street -> "Real" Horror.

Liked the music choices but hated how they crammed them all together one after the other. The later Stranger Things series did this as well and just comes off as really inorganic.

Enjoyed the callbacks to other movies (opening scene is Scream, had a couple of obvious homages to Halloween, and only true horror fans pick up on the Intruder scenes), and it's something I'll probably have on again in the background from time to time.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like every Netflix film has to have a GLBT and/or interacial relationship. It's gone from being "edgy" to predictable distraction. Sound track was good, even if not 100% accurate.

Inclusion!! Representation!!

At least they were somewhat subtle about the relationship in this one, we're normally bombarded with a gratuitous full-on sex scene because too many writers believe more gay porn is needed in America today.

did you miss the part where that exact thing happened? Would the story not have worked had they simply been best friends? It just felt completely shoehorned.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Netflix probably knows the demographic data a little better than we do.

If it's in there, it's in there because it appeals to a wider range of eyeballs.

Listening to an interview with the director, that relationship was always her intention

I saw no nipples or frontal nudity, and have no idea who is a top or bottom or if they're both switches. That wasn't a gratuitous sex scene, it actually fit within the story.

I figured that was kind of a throw back thing to campy 90s horror films having edgy lesbian scenes. One of the few times it makes sense for Netflix to do it.

Eh, I'm no prude and I couldn't care less about it being a gay relationship, but even my 12 yr old son asked why horror movies always have to include a needless sex scene that brings nothing to the story.

Yall act like yall have never seen any scary movie in the past 50 years. Everyone knows a sex scene means one of the characters is dying soon. Technically true for the 1994 part

Also great use of the Offspring.

I was surprised how much I liked this trilogy. Definitely felt like an R.L. Stine story (albeit with more gore than expected).

I was very impressed by the story and how they laid it out.

Gillian Jacobs is starting to be in several horror films and I am here for it
