I'll let Hercules explain my reaction:
Haven't seen the movie yet, so maybe I'm missing something. But aol was definitely around then.Brian Earl Spilner said:
AOL was not a thing in 1994.
Were you even born yet in 1994?Brian Earl Spilner said:
Half the songs were from after 1994, and AOL was not a thing in 1994.
Still, enjoyed it for what it was.
Prodigy was bigger, but AOL certainly existed. Depending on the source, it was around since 85 or so.Brian Earl Spilner said:

In 1994? Yes, but i was the nerdy kid who was running wardialers and frequenting underground bulletin boards.
A million users in 1994 for an online service was a lot. Any "computer kid" - like the one in the movie - had it. He even said in the movie he wasnt paying for it.
Fun fact - AOL in that era was where the term 'phishing' orginated.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like every Netflix film has to have a GLBT and/or interacial relationship. It's gone from being "edgy" to predictable distraction. Sound track was good, even if not 100% accurate.
I saw no nipples or frontal nudity, and have no idea who is a top or bottom or if they're both switches. That wasn't a gratuitous sex scene, it actually fit within the story.Tibbers said:
did you miss the part where that exact thing happened? Would the story not have worked had they simply been best friends? It just felt completely shoehorned.
I figured that was kind of a throw back thing to campy 90s horror films having edgy lesbian scenes. One of the few times it makes sense for Netflix to do it.Mr. AGSPRT04 said:

Yall act like yall have never seen any scary movie in the past 50 years. Everyone knows a sex scene means one of the characters is dying soon. Technically true for the 1994 partFL_Ag1998 said:
Eh, I'm no prude and I couldn't care less about it being a gay relationship, but even my 12 yr old son asked why horror movies always have to include a needless sex scene that brings nothing to the story.
