So, I don't think Tom Cruise is really a Scientologist.

Oblivion is a great movie. I think maybe Tom woke up.
It takes a special kind of brainwashed useful idiot to politically defend government fraud, waste, and abuse.

I don't think Jerry Seinfeld is Jewish. Because he was in the Bee Movie.

Hell.... I generally like Tom Cruise movies. I definitely like more than I don't like.

Cruise lives super close to a giant Scientology campus in Clearwater, Florida. And I know for a fact he uses the campus to conduct test screenings with potential co-stars (they/the studio comes to him - he hardly ever tests in LA). Dude is still as hardcore into Scientology as he's ever been, unfortunately.

Does he try and convert them to scientology during these screenings?

Not from what I've heard. I think he's finally stopped trying to recruit people altogether.

While true, "The Mummy" was really really bad.

I'm not sure when he got into Scientology, but I heard somewhere that he is a damn nice guy and was so before getting into it. Leah Remini thinks he is the spawn of satan because he is high up in the Scientology food chain and surely knows all the shady stuff they do. But I can't imagine a supposedly ridiculously nice guy doing that. The contradiction could only be explained by him being in the dark about all that stuff and is very vigilant about avoiding anti-Scientology "propaganda" (as he would view it).

I just looked it up, but his mom was a Scientologist (she died) and his dad left his life in 1974. So it appears that Cruise hasn't had to cut off family members that he cared about. So I'd guess he hasn't had to endure any of the negative BS that typically comes with being a Scientologist.

Or... he's not a good guy at all.

I don't think that, though. I like to think that he's a good dude so who knows. But if Scientology is really as bad as Remini says and he is tha high up then he's a bad dude is the other explanation.

That was why I brought up the fact that he had been reportedly a nice guy before joining Scientology. He joined Scientology in 1990 because of his wife at the time Mimi Rogers (who has subsequently left Scientology). So that's after Top Gun, Rain Man, Cocktail, The Color of Money, etc. So he was already well known, loaded, etc. It would be weird that a known nice guy would join Scientology, be shown "here is all the evil stuff we do" and for him to then say, "COUNT ME IN!!!"

I think he is beyond taken care of by the church because of the value he provides them, so that is the distorted lens he sees them through.

he's still a scientologist but he's not the common man scientologist. he's treated like a living God in the organization and isn't subject to any of the other nonsense the every man parishioner is. but don't kid yourself, he's real tight with that half-pint psychopath David Miscavige so he's aware of everything going on, which makes him complicit.

TLDR; **** him

Oblivion was great - thought it suffered from scientology blowback much more than what the quality of the movie was. He's definitely got some amazing movies - even the second half of his career has quality. Edge of Tomorrow, American Made, Collateral, Last Samurai, Minority Report.

He's got clunkers also. The Mummy, Vanilla Sky, Knight and Day.

He's such weird one to me on how his movies split. No desire to see Top Gun, no desire to see Mission Impossible movies - and I know I might be in a minority here.

This could be true. However, just because he's tight with Miscavige doesn't mean he's aware of everything Miscavige. Does your mom know EVERYTHING about you? I assume not even though you are tight with her. Now imagine you were doing illegal shady stuff. You'd be even less likely to tell her that.

I flipping loved Vanilla Sky.

Cameron Diaz was smoking and played the 'psycho ex-girlfriend' to perfection. The plot is interesting, and the original film "Abre los ojos" is great too. Penelope Cruz is in both. Plus Sigur Ross music at the end was perfect.

Sorry for the diversion into Vanilla Sky talk... For your troubles

Drives me crazy.

I've never heard of Knight and Day. How odd.

Surely you don't mean the original Top Gun?! You are missing out on the MI movies. Those are some badass action movies.

You "might be" in a minority? You have no interest to see Top Gun, one of the most popular and beloved movies of all time? Or the mission impossible series, which gets better with each addition? I'd say you are in a very very small minority.

Better get used to it, the number of folks using it will outnumber folks like you complaining about it and those complaints will never result in people stopping. This is how language evolves.
