Excellent documentary back story about the 2004 brawl at the Pacers v Pistons game where Ron Artest charged into the stands after a fan that threw a bottle at him. Highly recommend.

Watched it last night. Enjoyed it quite a bit. Jermaine O'Neal was the most interesting figure to me. Also didn't realize that the DA actually went after some of the fans in attendance. Brought back a lot of memories.

Brought back a lot of memories. I watched it live and couldn't believe what was happening.

Thought the overall quality of the documentary was pretty meh to be honest. Great that they got Jermaine, Ron and Jackson all to talk and share their thoughts, but I was hoping for more.

The guy that started it all by throwing the cup of beer was such a d-bag. He had no guilt about Ron Artest punching out the wrong guy because of his actions and even doubled down by saying he wished he had tripped him. That's a grown ass man saying that.

Thought it was good to great. I knew that Ron Artest was a bit of a nut but he's incredibly self aware now and it appears therapy has done him good. Stephen Jackson was exactly how I expected him to be. Loved getting to know more about Jermaine O'Neal. His injuries kept him from being dominant for a longer time but he was a really good player and could have been an all-timer in my opinion.

Looking forward to seeing this. I was out at a bar watching the madness unfold live.

Jermaine O'Neal has a nice basketball facility by DFW airport. It's called Drive Nation as is his AAU program. I've actually seen him out coaching at a tournament in McKinney last year.

Same. I had Ron on my fantasy team (crazy good points for steals plus he was listed as a guard/forward so I could start him anywhere based on my other players and off nights etc) and I actually yelled at the screen "Ron get out of the stands I need your points!" Not my best night.

The dumbass that walked up to Artest on the court and squared up to him before getting clocked still doesn't think he did anything wrong. Unbelievable.

The guys who did Wild, Wild Country made this doc. It's the first in a series of five on sports-related topics.

Watched this the other night. Overall a good doc. I'm not much of a basketball fan but I remember this well. I like seeing the other side because the media only showed the players going in the stands.

It really surprised me with the "NBA Ref" that was interviewed as well. I wonder if he had money on that game.

I'm amazed with the stuff said / thrown at the players this kind of thing hasn't happened before. Sad part is that the big money fans closer to the game perpetuate this stuff. And the NBA doesn't want to lose big dollars by clamping down on this behavior"

You clearly didn't watch the documentary or if you did you weren't paying attention.

No, I obviously haven't watched it yet. Apparently my thoughts are spot on.

On my list. Jermaine O Neal lives in Southlake. His daughter played volleyball for Carroll.

No, your thoughts are dead wrong. Not sure how you could think you were right based on my response.

I think that's the part that pissed me off the most. After watching the Jermaine sliding punch for years, that tiny fat doofus trying to square up against world class athletes twice his height makes me irrationally angry.

Not remotely.

Stern put the league above the individual players.

I remember defending Jermaine at the time and the documentary reminded me why. The media was absolutely reckless in how they covered the incident. Stern bent over and absolutely threw the Pacers under the bus.

They mentioned that most of the fans ended up with fines and probation but made it sound as if the instigator(Jeff Green) got more. Did anything more than an assault charge come to him?

I also would have loved to him them interview the guy in the stands Artest went after. I had always assumed it was the person who threw the cup. Obviously Jeff Green wasn't with him, I'm curious his thoughts today.

My memory tells me that we knew that night watching the video over & over that he went after the wrong guy initially.

the crazy thing about it all is that there was only 45 seconds left. 45 seconds away from possibly talking about the pacers winning a title over the spurs. the cup toss changed everything.

The perception was the reality at that time.
Stern felt like he had to punish the players or lose a bunch of fans and sponsors.

He did what he felt was best for the league and not the players.

That's what I meant with my other post.

Watched this last night and thought it was really well done. Realized that I never even think about Jermaine O'neal when I think about the brawl. Yeah, I knew he threw that one punch, but when I think about it, it's always Ron Artest and Steven Jackson that pop into my mind.

It's crazy that this is one of those events that I remember exactly where I was when it happened. I was in Vegas, playing poker at the Mirage. All of the tables stopped playing for about 20 minutes because everyone was watching TV.

I watched it and thought it was really good. I remember thinking the players got what they deserved. After watching that my view of the event is a little different now.

I also had no idea the Palace at Auburn Hills was no more.

i thought it was pretty interesting and liked seeing some of the footage not previously shown, but i also felt they could have done better. it almost seemed like they ran out of time or money and just wrapped it up.

for example, i don't think they showed any recent footage of the guy that threw the beer. i googled the guy and apparently he and artest talked years later and actually became friendly. how does that not get explored?

and why not have any scenes with any of artest, o'neal, jackson or miller together? it certainly seems like artest has grown a ton since then, it might've actually been good for o'neal or jackson to hear artest apologize and discuss it. or a fight would have broken out...either way, it's interesting from a documentary perspective.

finally, i always thought ben wallace got off way too light in the whole ordeal.

Same here. I was at a bar in Houston with this girl I used to like. I remember there was a big storm that night in Houston, raining like crazy.

Same here, I busted out laughing when he said that. Reggie Miller doesn't seem like the Kobe or Jordan type who gets respect from his teammates when he says something to them or gets down on them. I could see his teammates rolling their eyes whenever he talks to them. He didnt seem like the clear leader on that team for someone of his stature and ability.

I think the guys on that team were the kind that wouldnt listen to any older player. Just a bunch of crazy people
