I saw this has been briefly discussed in the anime thread but we've got our first look at the live action version coming out in November so figured it was time for a thread.

It sounds like they're trying to do a true adaptation of the original anime series (which is awesome if you haven't seen it) with the original creator on board as an advisor and some really good creative talent involved.

They dropped a first look a few days ago and I gotta say I'm intrigued...

I was reading an interview with one of the writers and he said they're doing their best to do a true adaptation of the original series. It can't be 1:1 because you're talking about 22 minute episodes in the original vs like hour long eps for live action, but it sounds like they're going to use a lot of the original storylines and a few characters have been cast that reflect that.

John Cho is always a yes for me

I saw of photo for Ein, now if they nail the Ed casting I'll be excited for this adaptation. Make sure the OST is all jazz and this one will have potential.

So this is 10 one-hour episodes for season 1. The original run is 26 22-minute episodes.

That actually makes this very interesting. Assuming they're planning for 2-3 seasons, they can fill in a lot of details and run some other B stories.

Netflix is doing something similar for last Airbender live action. I imagine they will cut out some of the less popular side stories and add their own character development episodes to the popular storylines.

Yeah I don't know that Bebop needs to rehash the mushroom episode or the "we all died drifting in space because of the sandwich" episode.

Bebop B stories were really pretty limited. Faye's forgotten past. Jet leaving the force. I guess you could say the audience learning more about the gate disaster.

If you consider Spike and the Syndicate being the main story, there seems plenty of room for new stuff.

Toys in the attic, as much as I actually like that episode, just isn't that important and does nothing for character development.

Love the anime series and I love the soundtrack. Can't wait to see it! Too bad Ed is not introduced in This season. Perhaps in season 2?

I'm not TOTALLY convinced she won't be, but it would be an odd thing to hold back as a surprise since I think opinions on her are mixed.

Update with the real opening... looks like a blank box at the end, surely that means Ed is gonna be in season 2.

I'm not familiar with the anime source material...but it looks like a cool kind of cheesy. I'll definitely give it a shot.

I'd call it a jazzy-themed space western noir(1990s source material), if they follow the anime there will be some cheesy episodes. But if they pull it off it will be a well balanced show. Everything today seems gritty or cynical today, not everything has to have a bleak outlook. From the anime the bounty hunter commercials let you know that it isn't meant to be entirely serious. Though when it does get serious it will stick with you(like the ending).

November 19. Can't wait!

Yup, I'm not a big anime guy but the series is a blast and has some great action while staying generally lighthearted and mixing in those big moments. Translating that feel to live action is definitely a challenge but this looks promising so far.

I don't really like anime but Cowboy Bebop is fkn awesome

I just hope they keep the same costumes for the Bounty Hunter news crew and cast the right actress "fill out" the role.

Really great John Cho interview about the role and the show. He's a super likable dude.

That's insane if the whole show is going to be like that. Worth watching just to see what creative **** they come up with in that format.

Really cool, inventive trailer...would not expect the show to be like that though.

I absolutely love how they've kept the music though so far, hopefully that isn't just fan service and the show actually utilizes the music from the anime throughout.

Never saw the original heard about it though, will definitely check this out based on the trailer.

I just finished watching the anime original for the first time. It had some enjoyable parts but I agree there is limited content, repeatedly going their origin stories, being expanded to one hour content.

I'm not sure if Bebop came out before the Panton Menance or vice versa, but the old men of the Syndicate definitely felt like mirror images of the Trade Federation.

This reminded me a bit of Speed Racer in terms of the stylization, curious to see how they take this feel to the full series. Definitely seems fun either way.

And it preceded Phantom Menace by about a year.
