I was about to say...all of his movies do that in parts. They all have that neat smokey spooky scene, they all have acting that borders on melodrama if not doesn't fit the tone of the scene. They all are filmed in an old house. Oddly it's part of why those movies work so well. I really liked the chances he took in directing this flick. Like the top down shots of her in her home, the over the top violence, the...well you'll see. I love movies that just go for it, knowing it's going to rip them from the easily digestible for all to bizarre niche.TCTTS said:
This is some of the worst lighting I've ever seen in a studio movie. At night, there's either a giant spotlight or big neon sign just outside of every window, no matter the location. And no matter time of day, everything has a harsh, digital, washed out look that somehow makes it appear as if someone's video taping a stage play. I forgot that parts of Aquaman inexplicably did this too. Guess it's James Wan's signature.

That was incredibly dumb.
I've never felt sorrier for an actress than I do right now for Annabelle Wallis.
What are bones?
How are joints?
This movie may very well have killed my passion to be a filmmaker.
I'm going to bed.
Would a non-horror enthusiast (aka my wife) enjoy the uniqueness of this? She doesn't like horror, but does like watching those types of movies together because it's fun.BoydCrowder13 said:
I ended up making my wife watch it. This movie is a great one to share to watch the other person's reaction.
I think James Wan is great. He isn't a high class filmmaker but he takes a lot of risks that most directors wouldn't even dream of attempting . This whole movie being one of them. Throw back horror movie with intentionally terrible acting, gore and the hilarious twist.
I'm also a big horror movie fan though.

I honestly hated this movie. All of these comments have me considering a second viewing to see if I should try with another lens or something.
I'm surprised it took you this long to realize this. How did the line/reading "It's time to cut out the cancer" two minutes in not clue you in?TCTTS said:
Is the acting INTENTIONALLY bad? Like, is that part of the twist? It's the only thing that would make sense.
Seriously? Come on folks. Some Junkie Cosmonaut said:tamuags08 said:

This thread has grown a lot since I watched it last night. Up to that point, it was mostly glowing reviews which had me really confused watching the movie. I was literally laughing during the reveal at the end. Not sure if that's what he was going for. Maybe me laughing means I was entertained? I don't know. That was...something.

Hahaha this^.
That plus the "Sydney….I'm adopted" (shocked face as music builds and camera pans in).
The movie clues you in pretty quick.
