Are there any movies that you might like to see updated? I'm watching LOTR and Gollum's effects have aged a bit. I'd imagine they could do better now (the CGI work on The Hobbit aside). I wouldn't want anything inserted or any physical effects replaced. Just CGI brought up to current abilities.

The quality of CGI shifts still a lot with today's films so re-doing it might not make it that much better.

Look at the T-Rex scene in Jurassic park (1993) and compare that to Tobey maguire running on the rooftops in Spider-Man (2002) to moff tarkin in rogue one (2016)……I say that while all 3 films had some groundbreaking effects at the time, Jurassic park holds up the best and its not close…..

way too many factors in my opinion that affect cgi so re-doing it won't necessarily make it better

That's a good point. There are definitely movies that are more recent that have had less than spectacular CGI.

I know it's not CGI, but I firmly believe 2001 would look worse today than it did 53 years ago.

NO!!! The awful CGI is part of what makes this movie a masterpiece.

Jurassic Park looks better than Jurassic World.

There's a lot less CGI in Jurassic Park than you think. Only about 5 minutes in the total movie.

Any movie that heavily used CGI will look dated at some point. But using it on the right place at the right time will stand the test of time.

The mummy returns has some of the worst cgi ever.

People laughed in theater when they saw the CGI Scorpion King.

A new challenger appears.

The Matrix. Oh wait.

The OT in Star wars has held up better than the prequel trilogy.

Pretty much every blockbuster from the early 2000's. The CGI technology was just way overused by everyone.

The ending of Vantage Point (2008) ends with the President flying off in a helicopter that looked rendered by a PS1. That was probably the last lol-worthy CG I remember seeing in a theater. God that was an awful movie.

I just watched a little of Scorpion King not too long ago and that was terrible even for it's time.

I don't fault the Dune shields all that much. It was 1984. It's not that bad for the era. Also, you can kind of envision them looking like that anyway based on how they are described.

Oh I know. Plus the TRex being seen mostly at night and in the rain, with an animatronic on the close-ups. But it's still so good. Admittedly the first shot of the brontosaur does look bad today, but the iconic John Williams score over it makes you forgive that.

Air Force One movie with Harrison Ford. The plane crashing into the ocean at the end of the movie is TURRIBLE!!!!

Wolverines claws in XMen Origins were glaringly bad, especially when it was done far better in the original Xmen movies.

Spawn could really use some love with modern CGI.

Terminator 1 also could use a refresh.

Pretty sure Terminator 1 has 0 CGI. It's all puppets, make up, and stop motion.

That is probably correct. The part where he is messing with his eye in the mirror is just cringy on a re-watch.

That scene is all Arnold with a fake knife and a fake Arnold head with a real knife.

when you consider how low of a budget T1 was on when it was made, the fact that the head looks as good as it does is actually pretty impressive along with the rest of the practical effects

Terminator is one of my top 3 films of the 80s. I don't think it needs to be changed at all. I feel the same way with Jaws despite the shark looking fake as hell.

I always hated this scene, and I feel like I was the only one. The CGI just didn't hold up for me even in 2003.
