I wouldn't necessarily call this one bad. If you're trying to make a serious movie, obviously it doesn't look great, but 300 very much leaned into more of a cartoonish sense of violence to go with its comic book aesthetic. The blood isn't meant to be realistic, it's meant to be over the top.

You are absolutely right in the next post about wolverine's claws. That movie should be purged from every possible outlet.

A significant portion of the stuff done in the late 90s and early 2000s is bad. I think people were comparing it to animation instead of reality, and it was really good animation but really bad reality. Lots of uncanny valley, mismatched lighting, and surfaces that lacked the detail to look real because they couldn't render fast enough.

The movies that did it well still had a ton of practical effects and put a lot of care into maintaining consistency with reality and spending the time / money to do it right.

the early stuff(matrix 2, scorpion king, etc.) were just trying to use a newer technology at the time too much and it looked terrible.

i feel like Avatar kinda turned the corner for most of movie making, as much as i hate that movie.

The fake tire smoke during one of the chase scenes in Ronin. It looked bad when the movie came out, safe to say it hasn't aged well

I don't watch a lot of "react" videos on YouTube but the corridor crew channel has a great series called VFX Artist React to Bad and Great CGI that I recommend you all to watch. They also do a stunt series as well that a good watch. My kids and I look at these together.
