I had to search to find this thread since nobody has posted on it in months, only to find half of the thread is a pretty annoying Twitter assault. Cool. Anyway..

Bradley Cooper's character and scenes were great. The (super) brief John C Reilly cameo made me laugh out loud. The leads were both very good and there were moments of genuine humor and sweetness.

But overall this movie kinda sucked. I couldn't decide if it was edited poorly or just intentionally weird for the sake of being weird, but the pacing was awful. Runtime was way too long. The thread of the story is pretty gross when you take a step back and think about what you're watching. And there were too many scenes where I was sort of invested, but mostly because I was trying to figure out if I missed something or if I was watching an inside joke.

Can't believe this has 91% on rotten tomatoes. One of the few movies I've walked out of in a long time knowing I have zero desire to see it again.

When Twitter reactions first drop, before any of us have had a chance to see the movie, I post them in nearly every thread for nearly every "big" movie of note, and have done so for years, because people seem to generally appreciate it. I'm so sorry you had to wade through those. It must have been traumatic.

The film looked perfect. None of the digital crap.
I guess I need to research the guy in the 12 jersey who may have been stalking Wachs.

Due to Covid, I am always a year behind on most movies, just saw this streaming, it's very well made, crazy to see all the famous relatives in this from Leo's dad to Tim Conways son. It did seem odd that she was 25 but she was an immature 25 vs his somewhat worldly 15. I didn't understand how he could create those businesses and wanted more Bradley Cooper…but overall, it's worth a watch.

Soundtrack is top notch too. The flashing scene should have been cut, IMO.

I assume he was from the opposition candidate just trying to dig up anything negative he could on Wachs.

Ps it's Safdie not Sadie.

Loved it. Evokes long forgotten memories of growing up in the 70s.

I thought it was pretty good but I think it would have been great without the creepy age difference.

Finally got around to seeing it. I guess i'm just not a fan of Paul Thomas Anderson. I try to get into his movies and just never can. All the acting was fine, I enjoy the atmosphere, the way it was shot, but there's just something about his movies i must not get.

Also... why are we okay with a love story between a 25-year-old and a 16-year-old?

I found the age difference to be creepy and distracting. The same movie could have been made with her being 18 or 19.
