Aka Scream 5, from the directors of Ready or Not.

Trailer hits tomorrow.

Is anyone over the trend of giving a sequel exactly the same title as the original?

Ie.
Halloween (There are now THREE movies named Halloween)
Scream
Final Destination, and "The" Final Destination
Rambo

Kind of random but it bugs me for some reason.

Technically the original Rambo movie isn't called Rambo.
It's called "First Blood"

This sounds like it would be a completely different movie.

This was my first thought, and I was going to not see it if they did that.

But a January release kind of "screams" this one isn't thought to be some blockbuster.

To be fair, the first Scream came out on Christmas, which is not exactly a big horror release date. It was a surprise hit.

I think people who are interested will go see it whenever it comes out.

Wow, they totally gave away pretty much the whole opening kill.

But that aside, looks like it'll feel pretty similar to Scream 4. I'm hoping there will be something interesting to set it apart, like how Scream 4 was a commentary on the trend of horror remakes in the 00's.

I do like that they return to the house from the original movie, that's pretty cool.

My theory is that the killer will be either related to, or actually be, Stu.

Looks basically like the Halloween "re-invisionings". Same basic story just grittier. Yawn. At least with Myers you had a backstory that was intriguing. There's no backstory with ghostface, it's basically just a Scooby-Doo episode of which character can we create some weird motivation for.

The real question about Halloween is, when is Paul Rudd going to get off his ego trip and come back to the franchise?

Yeah, I read in the comments by the creator saying that he made it.
He did call it a "Teaser" trailer.

If you would have shown me this trailer, but told me it was the trailer for Scream 4 (which I never saw, but assumed was this exact premise), I would have 100% believe you.

I do love the Scream franchise. The first one really is a masterpiece. The next two are entertaining, but are really just examples of sequels with diminishing returns.

The fourth one I saw once and that was enough. From what I remember, the plot revolved around social media and kids relentless drive for their "15 minutes" of viral fame. It felt stale really quickly. This one looks to avoid the "modern day social commentary," so that's already an improvement.

The bit with the door locks being controlled by a phone app was pretty f-ing terrifying and cool.

My wife and I have seen every other Scream movie opening weekend (and she is NOT a horror fan), so this one will be no exception. This is probably her favorite horror franchise.

I kinda thought this too. I saw the first three, bot none since. Wasn't even completely sure how many more had been made. Trailer looks decent though.

Which one had the meta-meta-meta opening with the girls on the couch? At least that part of it was enjoyable.

The original is one of my absolute favorite from high school. Was one of the first DVDs I owned. Pausing to look at Rose McGowan's nips sticking out in the garage was always a highlight.

I remember going to see H20 in the theater and it felt like the original Halloween was ancient history.

And now here we are 25 years after Scream. Man, I feel old.

So I watched a theory video on youtube, and the guy was saying the "opening kill" they gave away in the trailer, could be a swerve. And I have to say I'm convinced. Cause the opening scene is always the coolest thing in a Scream movie, and I don't think they'd give most of it away like that.

So I'm thinking either A) that's not the opening, B) she doesn't actually die, or C) there is a lot more to that scene that is not shown.

That movie was awesome when it came out. Everyone I went to school with saw it 3 or 4 times in theaters. I think I was in 4th grade.
