I mean, the major reason matrix didn't make much at the box office, other than the news that it sucked ass, was that it was available to stream at the same time as its theatre run. I saw this first hand with Beasts of no nation. Any time people can watch something relatively for free in their homes, that will dramatically affect the box office numbers.
Don't get me wrong though, matrix was absolutely awful.

why would you want Gale to die? She has the best character arc nearly of all the characters. I will say though, I really really wanted Matthew Lillard to reprise his role as Stu. We never really did see him totally die, just you know, stabbed and electrocuted but like not totally dead, ya know?
I think when word gets out that it's actually pretty good, more and more will flock to see it. I think lots of folks were on the fence with it being the fifth installment and a pseudo reboot.
