What i don't get is the time lapse then. 1950s to 1979 nothing., then 1979 to 83 nothing.

Sometimes I forget how much I love this show, then season 4 brings me right back. Eddie and 001 were great additions this season, even though things still get disjointed from time to time, this show just plays to the kid in me that grew up in the 80s.

I do think they've had a few too many storylines going at once this season, the stuff in California just hasn't been working for me as much as the others. I get why they are doing it, but I'm just not into it nearly as much as what's going on in Hawkins and in Russia.

At it's core this show is about trauma, and how people deal with it, kids in particular but adults too. All the kids other than 11 have parents that we see from time to time, and they aren't shown as having any real interest/concern about their kids for the most part...at least that's how the kids interpret it. There are exceptions like Joyce...until she bails to go looking for Hopper, but I had fun with that part of the plot so I don't mind it at all, it was just a lot of fun for me.

When you're a kid you don't really think anyone is as close to you and your friends, what you'd do for them, and what they'd do for you. I certainly thought that stuff growing up and didn't understand that how parents feel about their kids is that feeling multiplied exponentially on a level you can't comprehend until you are one.

I think for 11 to get her powers back it's not going to be from something they do in the lab, it's not going to be her friends, it's going to be Hopper. Either he does something to save her or he's threatened and she has to save him, I think that's the moment that things come full circle for her. Those two need each other, even her friends don't get her like he does.

I do hope we get some more background on Henry/001/Vecna in the next 2 episodes. I don't think it's quite as interesting for the whole concept of this kid was just born bad, there's gotta be more there.

I need to do a full rewatch now that season 4 rekindled my interest.

The tendrils were already existing when Eleven sent Vecna to the upside down. I think one of two things happened:

a) She sent him to a preexisting dimension that is basically Hell. This could legitimately be it, and he could simply have been another evil populating it.

b) The upside down is a creation inside eleven's mind and is like a prison for vecna or a repository/manifestation of eleven's negative emotions and experiences. 001 told her that the others weren't gone because they were still in him. I wonder if he meant it literally, and she did to him what he did to them, just more forcefully by obliterating his entire body (notice it was being ripped apart as he was pinned against the wall). Also notice the red background and lightning where 001 is banished. That's a mindspace, not the upside down. It's the same as when Max and Nancy are in vecna's mind, whereas the rest of the upside down is grey and dark.

I don't know why everything is stuck in 1983 but it could have something to do with eleven opening a gate to her own mind. If she was remote viewing, she could have subconsciously built a mental picture of the world that still exists in her mind. The demogorgon, mindflayer, and other monsters are really physical manifestations of her own demons. The mindflayer might have been vecna reconstituting himself, and he's finally shown up because he's fully reformed himself in eleven's mind after being obliterated in 1979. That's why the mind flayer takes a spider shape (Creel's favorite), really wants to destroy humanity, and hates eleven so much.

Thought the whole backstory with Vecna was great

I introduced one of my kids to Stranger Things back in January and we've been watching it slowly ever since.

This afternoon we hit the Massacre at Hawkins Lab (S4, E7). Watching her face as the connection of Henry Creel / 001 / Vecna comes together was almost as good as watching that episode myself last summer.
