Lol, Desmond was in the majority of the episodes in the series, and he was even the driving force bribging all the other major characters together in the end. He's without a doubt a major character.

Getting away from comedies, I would say Crowley from "Supernatural". Yeah, there are a lot of episodes with him involved and some that focus on him, but he's not Sam, Dean, or Castiel.

Crowley has some of the best one-liners in that series. So darkly sarcastic. Norm MacDonald could have written some of his lines.

it's tough with shows like the office where there are 3-4 major characters and 7-8 "minor" characters but those aren't minor characters in the classic sense. the office minor characters all had tons and tons of screen time.

Idris Elba was great in his guest role on the Office, specifically because you saw that when there was a competent manager, all of Jim's gags and effing around all day got him in all sorts of hot water. Uncomfortable Jim is one of my favorite parts of the Office.
