Here's another interesting article/list I found about deep cuts from famous bands. Most of these are obscure to me.

Ten Years Gone is a deep cut? That's one of my favorite Zeppelin songs to listen to and to play on guitar.

I did say most, not all. But agreed 10 Years Gone not a deep cut to me either but I didn't create that list. Again perspective.

It's hard for me to put any LZ in a deep cuts category.

I mean they have like 85 total songs recorded in studio and I basically have and do listen to all of them regularly. My GH list for them is 35 songs long. I have a 2nd playlist of more than 25 others that I'm sure most know. That leaves about 25 and to be honest not a lot of those are great. Although most are listenable.

I think almost every song off I, II, IV, and Houses of the Holy have gotten tons of airplay.

The least known probably from my 2nd collection are probably off LZ III, Physical Graffiti, Presence and In Through the Out Door. Here are 2 deeper tracks from each of those albums.

Tangerine
That's The Way
Night Flight
Trampled Under Foot
For Your Life
Nobody's Fault But Mine
South Bound Suarez
I'm Gonna Crawl

I will see both of your Incubus offerings and raise you with this one for mind-blowing deep cuts. Is it jazz? Is it funk fusion? Is that a damned saxophone? What is that modulated baseline? Is that Brandon Boyd's voice?

Definitely hard with Zep. From your list, Tangerine, Trampled Underfoot, and Nobody's Fault But Mine are pretty well known IMO. What about a song like Bron-Y-Aur Stomp off LZIII? Hard for me to gage if it's well known.

Night Flight and a few others qualify, because they were never played live as a band, and Page/Plant are so restrictive commercially (maybe ironic, given how much Page borrowed).

However, most of the catalogue cannot qualify as a deep cut.

I think this one meets the truest definition of a deep cut. Not a single, but buried on an album that went Platinum largely on the backs of 3 hit singles.

Rush..probably too deep for today's crowd.

Another one where I listen to the entire catalogue so I can't say.

Definitely a deep cut for Incubus and JEW. Love both of those songs.

However, the best version of Summer Romance is their acoustic one, from the AT&T show. Can't find a good version.

Blue Oyster Cult would never be my favorite band, but this song is pretty cool.

Rush is a tough one for Deep Cuts, Fans listen to everything. Every album but Moving Pictures and 2112 is a Deep Cut for the Unwashed.

One of my favorite Silverchair tracks. Not on any of their studio albums.

Even then a lot of Rush fans tune out most of the music after Signals. There's some great stuff in there though.

Some of y'all are way to picky on what is and isn't a deep cut. Every popular band on the planet has hardcore fans that know every damn song.

so I saw someone mentioned Duchess by Genesis…..made me think of this one….it was supposed to be on the Abacab album but didn't make the cut….Genesis later released a live album titled Three Sides Live…..the U.S. release of the album contained a fourth side of studio cuts…..this was one of them….

Totally forgot about Three Sides Live. That was a great live release.

I'm sure I could think of a ton, but the two that come immediately to mind is Tool's Third Eye, and The National's About Today

Is it possible for Metallica to have deep cuts? Maybe Low Man's Lyric?

Sometime around 97 or so, I went to see 311 touring on the Transistor release. Sugar Ray had just released Floored. Back then, Sugar Ray was a pretty decent nu metal band in the days before the pop success of Fly and 14:59. Anyway, Incubus was the first act. SCIENCE had just come out in limited release, and I had no idea who they were. Their set blew me away, and I spent the next 6-8 months going in to a local record store asking if they had gotten it in.

The kids don't know how hard we had to grind for new music back in the days before Limewire and Napster changed the game, saving up to pay $90 for a bootleg concert CD.

of course they do.

I saw them last month and they pulled out trapped under ice, Orion, fixxxer, shortest straw.

I'd say those are all deep cuts. Your radio metallica fan is not quite as familiar with those as your typical hardcore fan.

I'm just sayin I cannot judge a deep cut - for LZ, Rush, The Police or Tom Petty probably.

There are deep cut for them I'm sure for casual fans.

My thoughts on deep cuts, not that any of you care. It's a song on an album that was not released and didn't get airplay. "Moonlight Mile" above is a good call. Another on that album is "Sister Morphine." I can listen to that album forward and backward and they're not deep cuts for me but would be to the casual music listener.

The thing is, hardcore fans don't have any deep cuts. I love Guns N' Roses and Metallica and none of their songs are deep cuts to me but to many people they have quite a few.

Guns N Roses
Think About You - Appetite for Destruction
Double Talkin' Jive - Use Your Illusion I
Don't Cry (Alt Version) User Your Illusion II

Metallica
No Leaf Clover - S&M
Mama Said - ReLoad
Dyer's Eve - AJFA

I could go on with these two bands but those are just examples.

I'm going to go back and listen to some of these that I haven't heard.

Yeah, you're right. I guess I forgot about how few of their songs make the radio...although I would think Orion is pretty well known. Probably some stuff off the 2 recent albums.

All Rush is Deep Cut. So much so that many of my favorite songs by them I only heard after years of listening to side 1 of Moving Pictures, their 8th album.

Here's a song I never heard until this performance, some 20 years after it was released.

I think Kid Gloves counts as a deep Rush cut. They rarely played it live, which is a shame, because it contains one of Alex's best solos.

While I do agree mama said is a deep cut, it goes against your definition as it was a single, even had a music video.

Also.. uh hum.. mama said is track 11 on Load.

No Leaf Clover was #1 on rock charts for 7 weeks and still gets plenty of radio play today. That song is NOT a deep cut.

My only contributions to this thread are that the very first Modern English song posted is totally badass. I've never heard that.

And Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are just flat out incredible. What a loss. Sad I never saw them live.

It was already mentioned on this page

Got to see it live back when they played it in '98. Hasn't been played since!

Speaking of songs Metallica doesn't play, apparently they've never played Don't Tread On Me live. I'm not sure if this is official, but I've read that Hetfield hates it.
