That looks like an unmitigated disaster of a show. I will avoid. Thanks for the warning.

I'll admit that the show may have lost a little impact by now, but for its time it was pretty bold to try to remake Friends with less funny characters and situations.

I loved the original back in the day. Minus the last 5 minutes which don't exist, they never happened and I will never talk about them.

Very fun show for 6 of the 9 seasons. Finale might be the worst in modern history for ruining the entire series

There were some good ideas in almost every episode of HIMYM but there was almost always something off about the execution of those ideas. This pretty much is what was wrong about the entire series. Good idea, slightly off target with execution.

I was ok with the mom dying, but the issue is halfway through the series ted and robin had already dated, had a relationship and broke up and we were already sick of them together.



This new series probably checks all the boxes:
-strong female lead
-disproportionate representation of races intermixed in friend group
-gay couple

I agree with this, plus I liked Robin with Barney. They seemed to have more fun.
I am a HIMYM fan. It was a fun show for me. Nothing special. Just kept me entertained.

I never really got the hype with Robin. And Ted's continual pining for her became pathetic.

I didn't like Barney and Robin together but finally came around on it. Then they ruined that in the finale too.

Newhart is probably the BEST ending of a comedy show. and you know people are pissed about HIMYM and you compare it to a masterpiece?

I enjoyed HIMYM when it was on, and watched it pretty much every week... But since the show ended, I've never thought about it.

I'm not really sure how they're going to do the mom telling the stories and it not end up super creepy. I mean, the dad telling his kid about his hook ups was weird enough. Now, it's going to be the mom telling her kids about the time she had a threesome?

HIMYM was definitely overrated. I watched anyway.

I firmly believe this was a show that originally had the course to the mother declaration planned, but then veered off course when they felt like fans had figured it out and they didn't want the fans to figure it out so they went off course in a bad way and started making shi* up as they went along all the way to the end.

I agree. But the funny thing is they audibled/lucked into a great mother to start the final season. She was charming and great with Ted. They had done it!

And then they still screwed it up.

Well next to the codependent hellscape that was lilly/marshall. That seemed natural for all the wrong reasons

They planned the ending and filmed the kids final scenes way ahead of time so they always had the Robin ending planned.

I think the issue is that it might have worked if the show was 3-4 seasons long, but it ended up going much longer. So, they had to spend a little time every season with a Ted/Robin will they/won't they and by season 5 or 6 we all got so sick of it. Those episodes were always the worst, but they had to keep the Ted/Robin thread going because they had already decided their ending.

Their mistake was sticking to it and not changing it once the show went so many seasons. By the end we were so sick of Ted/Robin that the ending suuuucccckkk. They had both found much better endings and the creators should have embraced that.

What they planned for at beginning and what they didn't plan for was why the show wasn't very good in the end

First season they didn't know if they would make it past that with ratings so they had Victoria as possible conflict with Robin for his affections.

They also didn't see Barney Stinson character becoming as big or bigger than the father but that is what happened

They also didn't expect to go so long like others said and went way to long. It took Jason Segal mailing it in basically for it to end officially

The show if went only four seasons maybe five with intro of the actual mom could have been a sitcom that would have withstood the test of time. But the last few years and ending will not have people rewatch ala Friends Seinfeld Cheers MASH etc which however you feel about those shows are some of the most watched non animated sitcoms ever done

I don't like How I Met Your Mother very much, although I have seen most of the episodes. Lily is just awful. Ted is even more awful. Robin is ok. Marshall is ok.

But I have to admit, and anybody who has watched the show must admit, that Barney Stinson is just an all time great TV character. He single handedly makes a lot of the episodes worth watching. It's hard to be truly funny on network TV, but NPH and the writers absolutely pulled it off. Awesome character. Because of Barney, I prefer HIMYM over Friends.

Doesn't come close to making up for David Schwimmer being the main character and two Lisa Kudrows being the supporting cast.

Slapsgiving makes the entire show worth it.

I don't understand why people say it's overrated. I don't think I've ever seen it in any "Best Sitcoms of All Time" lists. I think most people would say,"It was a good show, but nothing groundbreaking.". That's hardly overrating the show.
