Geeze it was a quick 30 minute special people. It wasn't as good or as bad as some on here are saying. It was not one of his top shelf performances but I doubt he even cared for it to be...

If you want the breakdown...it was 27 minutes of actual standup, 9 of which led with the covid/vax stuff. The rest he touched on various social subjects we've all experienced in some way the last 2 years. None of it I found offensive even when I disagreed with his POV.

The strongest segment from both a social commentary and humor standpoint were the final ~10 minutes which focused on the broader topic of content. Yes he opened with Trump, then biden/kamala but quickly went into his personal issues (reading clickbait while on the phone with his mom) and how it doesn't matter what any of us believe. We're all being controlled by manipulating corporations and countries that want to keep us in endless timeloops of information overload and focused on gutter crap content. Break free and live.

The exact same thing can be said about how annoyed you seem over this. And the exact same thing happens in the echo chamber in which you often post. It's nothing new.
agree. Wow that was refreshing.

I just wish comedians were still counter culture. There needs to be some pushback from the mainstream enforced viewpoints and they used to do it. Now they all share the same tepid takes on life.

Haven't watched it yet but I've seen a few of these comedy club shows and they seem like a lazy money grab….the material is usually not quite as good as other specials with relatively low production value.

Random fact... I grew up down the street from a girl, a friend my age, who eventually dated Aziz circa 2015 or so. Around that time, our parents still lived down the street from each other, and she brought Aziz home to meet her family for like a weekend or a night or something. Quick visit. And my parents heard that he was basically glued to his phone the entire time, wasn't super engaging, etc. Apparently her family wasn't impressed. So it's funny/encouraging to hear now that he at least recognized he had a problem and took (relatively extreme) measures to address it.

The last time I tried to watch him it seemed like an hour long apology for being all rapey in his personal life.

Seriously if this triggered you, you really need to watch it again and take what he says about the algorithms to heart and maybe delete a few aps.

It was ok.

I somehow got distracted trying to count how many performances were stitched together to make this one special. Seeing so many different faces at the tables was weirdly entertaining. Usually there are two different groups, but this time it seemed like five.

I love Aziz. He could read the phone book and I'm laughing. But this 30 min special is 100% political. And of course the butt of all jokes are people who don't agree with the leftist point of view.

The only people who see a comedy show, or maybe anything, as 100% political are those that have gone so far down the rabbit hole they can only see things through a political lens.

It's weird. I thought he was good in Parks and Rec. Loved him in the first season of Master of None (wasn't as into the second and didn't watch the third). I've never been impressed with his stand up, though, including those one. For me, he's a much better comedic actor than comedian.

Edit: with regards to the political jokes, if you can't laugh at Trump or anti-vaxers, you are no different than the cancel culture on Twitter who can't find humor in any joke that mentions race. If done correctly, there can humor in any subject, even stuff like cancer. That said, if your going to make Trump jokes, you need to take your show out of NY. In NY, you can just get up on stage and say, "Trump is racist" and the place will go nuts. It's too easy. If you can make someone in Florida laugh at your Trump joke, though, you know you have something good.

I haven't watched it yet but I want to, and I will. This thread is the first I've seen that gave me any idea of the content of the special.

Overall, I LOVE Aziz as a funny guy, but his stand up has never been among my favorites. Decent, worth watching, but not elite. Which is fine. His strength to me is as a writer and a comedic actor.

But anyway, I'm looking forward to checking it out. Especially after seeing all the disagreement. I have a feeling it's fairly tame and not worth getting worked up over but I'll check for myself and then re-read the thread. I'm sure y'all are all going to be holding your breath for my report.

I don't get it. It's 30 min of him making fun of people who aren't vaxxed. Most importantly, he wasn't funny while doing it.

I'd give it 2/10, 2 for each time I chuckled.

This is why I sometimes ask if a certain show or entertainer bashes others or injects politics. No way I will watch this now. Condescension is one thing…but when it's coming from brainwashed sheep who think they are smarter than everyone else. It's a huge turnoff.

Thanks for the heads up.

Oh yeah, it's all of us that are he problem. Why can't we take all of the political/religious preaching, condescension, and mockery from these idiots as just good natured ribbing? Surely you'd be saying the exact same thing if the shoe were on the other foot.

I mostly associate with conservatives and I know ZERO "anti-vaxxers". Actually, One of my buddy's has a hippie type wife who refused to get any vaccinations for her kids, so I guess I know one. The problem with the term "anti-vaxxer" is that it's just a weaponized word meant to attack or label people who don't think the vaccine should be mandated, have questions about it's efficacy, want it to be tested for longer, or who had and recovered from Covid and just don't feel the need to take it. I have people that I know are complete dumbasses IRL who feel so smart by bashing people as "anti-vaxxers" and saying things like "trust/follow the science and help others!"...when in fact, it has been proven that the vaccines do not help the ones around you. My vaccine doesn't help yours work any better.

If I hear someone throw around the term "anti-vaxxer" I immediately know they are a complete and utter moron.

Right we need to go back to the days of non-political/non-social commentary comedy, like Jack Benny, George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Dave chappel, Bill Cosby and Dennis Miller

It's their M.O.

These guys THRIVE on sh*tting on "liberal" content they haven't even seen for themselves, and more often than not *never* plan on ever seeing. They don't care about giving things a fair shake. They don't care about nuance. They live for using this board as a means to virtue signal and soapbox... while complaining about virtue signaling and soapboxing. They b*tch and moan about Hollywood's preaching, condescension, and mockery... while coming here to preach, condescend, and mock.

Because doing so on F16 isn't enough. They know it's an echo chamber. So they come here to try and stick it to the people they think are "sheep," eating up Hollywood's bullsh*t.

And if you dare call them out, you're a "cop" or trying to play "king of the entertainment board," or a "martyr" when you try and defend your actions/express how sick and tired of it you are.

It happens day after day after day. They truly can't help themselves. Just like I can't help calling them out. So 'round and 'round and 'round we go...

I thought it was decent, not great. Im as conservative as they come and the first 10 minutes or so was basically making fun of anti vaxxers, but even then it was slightly funny. The ironic thing was him making fun of people listening to a dumb jock like Aaron Rodgers about the vaccines, when Aziz is a freaking comedian preaching to people about the vaccine lol. Aziz did defend Ivermectin which was pretty unexpected. I think he was just playing up to the liberal NYU crowd who had to be vaccinated to attend the show.

Overall it had a few laughs, somewhat entertaining, but not his best standup ever. It was like a musician who puts out a short EP album with a few unreleased songs.

Nah, just sick of braindead Hollywood liberal hypocrites who think everyone who doesn't think like them is an idiot. Crazy how this turns other men on here into white knights lol. Don't worry, me not tuning in to be mocked doesn't affect your boy's pocket book one iota. If entertainers are going to mock "anti-vaxxers" or people they disagree with politically, I don't think it's out of bounds for people who fall into those groups to comment on it.

Funny because you always swoop in to defend them, when in reality, as someone in the industry, I would think you should be wishing they weren't always actively turning potential viewers/movie-goers off. This is more than just Aziz Ansari. The bulk of your industry regularly mocks those right of center...and has for decades, even if it used to be more subtle.

Personally, I now hate most of Hollywood and hope they continue to stick to this formula of alienating people who dare to see the world differently than them, because it only hurts their industry in the end. I think you and the other condescending white knights on here underestimate how many people are sick of this sh**.

PS- I was interested in seeing it until I received more info on this thread. I used to be a fan.
