I haven't read the book(s) but if this actor is true to what the book version was I can 100000% understand how casting Tom Cruise makes zero sense.

Enjoying it so far!

Really enjoyed it. Watched it too quick, need a second season

And although he's much taller than Cruise, they still must've done some camera angle tricks since the actor is only 6'2"

Wife and I binged it this weekend and really enjoyed it. The only thing I had major problems with was the skeet shooting chick in Atlanta. You're going to hurt something badly if you fire it like that, sweetie.

We enjoyed it. Pretty decent adaptation of the character in the books and the story was interesting.

Don't blame her. Alec Baldwin recommended the weapons expert.

They did not do enough tricks when he was standing around next to Roscoe and other women.
He should have dwarfed them

But it would be difficult to find a 6'5" guy who can act and also looks good enough

Three episodes in and it's a solid thumbs up for me. I was NOT hopeful after seeing the trailer. Already hoping for a season 2.

What book do you think they should adapt next?

I think Worth Dying For (the Duncans in Nebraska), The Hard Way (mercenary company in New York), and Bad Luck & Trouble (teams up with his old unit in LA) would all be good ones.

I noticed and appreciated Reacher's trigger discipline when he got Roscoe's gun but then shook my head at that scene.

I didn't go back to watch, but it looked to me like she shouldered it once she turned around to fire.

I finished it last night too. Really enjoyed it. Though after watching Ozark the previous weekend, I kept seeing Ruth when I looked at Roscoe.

I did not like most of the ancillary characters. I know he's been in a bunch of stuff but the mayor was not good and may as well have been from an SNL skit about Georgia. And KJ was not good as an actor either. That's why I hope they get a bigger budget to up their supporting role options to a better tier of actor. Give the main guy another season and I think he'll come along as well.

It was like he was playing Boss Hogg in a Dukes of Hazard remake.

My wife and I stayed up Friday until after midnight bingeing the full season. I kept asking her if she wanted to continue or watch something else, later asking if she had enough for one day but she was hooked and wanted to go on and see what happened. We both really enjoyed it. Stayed pretty true to the book with a few minor differences. I am now re-reading the book.

or did your wife just stay up to check out Reacher's biceps and pecs?

Binged most of it over the weekend and finished it today. Like most of the posts, really enjoyed it. My problem, like most action shows/movies, is how the bad guys, using automatic weapons, can't hit anyone. Drives me nuts, every time.

Also, don't knock the Mayor. He's a Texan and played D-Day in Animal House. That goes a long way.

No one mentioned the Lee Child cameo in the last scene at the diner. He's the guy that bumps into Reacher when he was walking in.

Wow, I didn't recognize him as D-Day, although I would have had I bothered to look at the credits and seen his name (McGill).

I figured that was Child in that scene; it felt a little forced but I can appreciate it

Just finished it last night and really enjoyed it and whoever choreographed the fight scenes did an excellent job. I especially liked the one in New York where he ends up using his neck tie to eventually kill him. It seems like fight scenes in movies have gotten way too predictable (save for John Wick) but this series really did them well.

My one quibble is I would have liked to see the mayor get more of a comeuppance (yes he was killed but just too quick for my tastes, sorry if that's a spoiler).

Well, she obviously noticed his assets but didn't fess up to that being the reason. And she's not shy about expressing her views in that area. But after 45 years of marriage, I am pretty secure in my current state of physicality by comparison.
I am not the Six Million Dollar Man, but I might need that surgery. "We have the technology, we can rebuild him!"

On a series that drops all at once, I wouldn't think spoiler tags are necessary. I'd stay away from the thread until you've watched the show. That seems like how other threads on here go anyways.

When people are saying "I'm on episode X, enjoying it so far!", it's pretty obvious they haven't finished watching it, and you shouldn't post spoilers.

Not like using the spoiler tag is such a hardship.

Haven't watched the show and just skimming for reactions. I've gotten pretty good at filtering out spoiler white noise without spoiler tags.

Show threads are fair game for any and all spoilers. It's on you if you are on here without finishing the show.

Just finished it earlier today after binge-watching all of last night.

Really enjoyed it.

I was wondering what Thad Castle did after his pro career fizzled out in Blue Mountain State.

Also, glad to see Clive Babineaux moved from Seattle PD to rural Georgia.

Loved Willa Fitzgerald as Roscoe, and especially liked the fact that they didn't try to force any SJW bullsh-t into this series. Netflix could learn a lesson here.

Finished it last night. Not a book reader (yet), so I can't comment on its accuracy to the books, but I was thoroughly entertained.

If the God-awful WOT series can get renewed (apparently out to season 3), then this show sure as hell better get renewed that far, at least.

I really like the Reacher books and I am glad to see one of them come to life in the Amazon series.

The series was good and my wife and I enjoyed it. She has not read any of the books.

We also both enjoyed the "Bosch " series on Amazon. Bosch is based on a book series. What they did differently on Bosch in comparison to Reacher is that each season of Bosch was based on a combination of 2-3 books in the series. Whereas this season of Reacher was based on just the first book of the series.

The Reacher season seemed like they were dragging the story out. I think Bosch was able to keep a faster pace with more action and plot development per episode over Reacher because they could pull the storyline from 2-3 books.

I wonder if Reacher season 2 will be based on just one book?

Excited there will be a season 2.

Link below has all the books with synopses (mentions a few things that are slightly more spoilery than what's on the book jacket, so beware). Wonder which one will be next.

I haven't kept up with the last few releases. I always listened to them and it's just not the same with the new narrator. Dick Hill was so good. Guess I could actually read them.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I've only read one book), but doesn't he just kind of bounce around without forming attachments? So recurring characters would be tough to explain?
bagger05
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yes.

In the first book (which this is based on) he is very fresh out of the army and toys around with the idea of staying with Roscoe, but she wants to stay and help rebuild Margrave in the wake of everything and Reacher can't settle down. He just has this urge to wander.

Plus tons of agencies are about to descend on Margrave and he needs to skip town since he killed a ton of people.
Buzzy
How long do you want to ignore this user?

As someone who has read the books, does reading them add to the series? Thinking of buying the second book in the series to get a start on season 2 (assuming season 2 is based on the second book, no guarantee there).

I'm only three episodes in right now but so far I think it's been an enhancement.

I've enjoyed seeing how they've adapted it to account for it taking place about 30 years later than the book was set and the tweaks to some of the characters.

Re: the books, I love the Reacher series like I love Taco Bell. Like all of these series they're pretty formulaic but I think Lee Child does a good job of mixing things up to keep it interesting. Some are in first person, some are in third person, some he's a total lone wolf, some he's working with a partner, some have romantic interests, others don't.

I doubt you don't know what you're getting into, and if you can't suspend disbelief then you wouldn't be interested at all. But even so, there are a handful of moments in the series that'll make you roll your eyes. I think Reacher is a great character and if you like him then all the books are pretty fun even though some are better than others.

The second one wasn't one of my favorites -- personally I think it's unlikely it'll be the next season. Sometimes the books will make casual references to others in the series but for the most part they all can stand alone.
