I don't watch much TV, so I watch every second of the shows I do watch, like BCS. in fact, this season, I watch each episode twice - first time just to see what happened and second time to look for meaning I may have missed.

I thought after the first viewing - "seems like a lot of effort just to close off the cab driver making him". But then I watched it again.

The one thing I haven't seen anyone mention is what I thought was the most significant - Gene slipping on the signet ring. That was Saul Goodman's signature jewelery. Putting that ring back on, along with the advertising pic of Gene putting a red jacket back on, are all you need to know to tell you where this thing is going.
That wasn't a Saul ring, that was Slippin' Jimmy's ring that he got from his buddy Marco who died while they were pulling a scam.

Why does the placement matter to you, and why do people have issues with this epsisode?

The rest of the show is the conclusion of the Jimmy/Saul/Gene story.

I think people's expectations are so high at this point so that is adding in to the extreme reactions. What if this had been the first episode of the season? I'm sure some of the simpletons still would have been bored out their little minds but I'm guessing the feelings wouldn't be quite as strong.

How confident is everyone that you'll be satisfied with the ending of BCS? By satisfied, I mean you will think the writers stuck the landing (so the opposite of Game of Thrones), not that you'll personally be pleased with how things turned out for the characters.

I have all the confidence in the writers but the expectations are just so high, I'm sitting at about 75% confident the writers pull it all off in a way that I walk away pleased.
This has been my concern for awhile. We've seen it so often with shows that have a dedicated fanbase. GOT comes to mind.

Honestely, this episode had me more on edge than any other episode this season.

Why?

I don't know what is going to happen.

I knew something was going to happen to Kim, so I wasn't on edge.

No man. No. **** no.

The expectations didn't ruin GoT. The showrunners did.

Yes, while it was Marco's ring, jimmy made it a key part of his Saul Goodman look.

True. But in a vacuum, if you didn't have the excellence of Seasons 1-3 of GOT and the expectations that came with it, Season 8 would have just been mediocre TV and the backlash wouldn't be there.

Some on this thread have said that BCS was over after episode 9, when he went full Saul. So then why is Saul on the run as Gene? Surely not because he represented low level criminals. Surely there was something that happened that made him go the vacuum route. I mean, you and I know it was because of what he did in BB (if you watched BB) but we're going to get nothing in BCS that moves us from Saul to Gene? There's 3 episodes left, so I'm assuming we're going to get some of that. As well as wrap up the Gene story.

I don't know, maybe I was just looking for a more linear timeline in this last half season, which is why I found this episode less satisfying.

I must be the only one that loved the Cinnabon eating scenes. The guy from Parks and Rec was perfect in that role, he was so regimented about how he ate - expert with fork and knife, spinning the plate halfway through each time, he was like a professional eater. And the fact that Gene/Saul recognized this and exploited it is brilliant.

Loved it.

He continued to wear it as Saul but he started wearing it when he was still Jimmy so to equate it to Saul isn't entirely accurate.
Quote:

Jimmy continued to wear the ring for years, even after becoming the sleazy criminal lawyer "Saul Goodman" ("Breaking Bad").

Jimmy usually fiddles with the ring before or after making a dangerous and important decision.

It was far from my favorite episode and early on I'll admit I wasn't thrilled with it. As it progressed I started liking it more & more once I realized where they were going. I even felt my heart rate going up during the heist sequence like it did many other times in the BB/BCS universe.

So there was nothing wrong with the episode, it didn't so what you wanted it to do for you.

I wonder if people who grew up in episodic TV hate it less.

Yes, and I haven't made one complaint about the contents of the episode. It was just out of place to me. I said earlier that if this was episode 12 I would probably have been okay with that. Not an apples-to-apples comparison, but would we have appreciated Granite State as much as a flash forward if there were 3 episodes still to go in BB, instead of it being the next-to-last episode?

Again, maybe I was just looking for something more linear at this point.

I'm confused as to how you feel this was out of place but then say that you would be fine with it being the finale (I assume that is what "episode 12" is?).

13 episodes in this season. So, we'll see what transpires the last 3 episodes. If this was a next-to-last episode that had ramifications that come up in the finale, then sitting here today it would feel better to me. We'll see how I feel after the series concludes.

It's interesting that the next episode - 6.11 - is called Breaking Bad, which one would of course assume points to Walt & Jesse's appearance, when episode 6.12 - the penultimate episode - is the one directed by Vince Gilligan. If we had no titles yet, I would assume the Gilligan episode would be the one with Walt & Jesse, given that Gilligan obviously created BB. Considering that the preview for next week was in black and white yet again, I'm wondering if the Breaking Bad title is somewhat of a fake out, and has more to do with something Gene does in Omaha. Then, episode 6.12, directed by Gilligan, is the Walt/Jesse appearance, followed by 6.13, the series finale, directed by Peter Gould.
