I guess I never much saw Walter White as a hero. My interpretation of the show is he was the true villain all along. In the end it was just like the words from the song, he got what he deserved.

Jimm/ySaul/Gene is much more complex in terms of hero/antihero/villain.

It can be argued, that he never went 100% villainous. For example, he never got as bad as Jack/Todd. He never killed an innocent person for the hell of it.

Did he make a drug that ruined lives? Yes. But those people chose to use it. He didn't force it on them. Did he watch Jane die when he could have helped? Yes, but she was blackmailing him and was probably going to get Jesse killed. Did he order the death of a bunch of people? Yes, but they were all in "the life" and were going to turn on him. So both sides were self preserving. He just won that fight. Should he have taken money from Elliott? Probably. Did he get too greedy and stay in when he should have got out? Yes. Did he ruin his family and much of their lives? Yes. But not intentionally. It just ended up that way. To me, it's debatable of any of that really being "evil". To me, the most evil thing he did was tell Jesse that he watched Jane die (after ordering Jesse's death in revenge). But that is still not up to the Jack/Todd level of evil.

But GD the one two gut punches of Howard followed by Kim leaving - ugh.

This is actually where my brain has been going. I can't imagine the scene where she saw them going into the garage in the middle of the night being a total throw away scene. She's going to confront them, talk out of turn to someone, instigate something that's going to cause some dust-up. Either Gene is going to butt heads with her or her son is going to and some unforeseen accident or problem arises because of it.

Howard was no saint. He treated Kim like dirt. Some of that was Chuck, but Howard made it very clear how important he was to those around him. So I don't consider him quite an innocent bystander. That being said, he obviously didn't deserve to lose his life being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I agree Jimmy is more complex. While he was always "Slipping Jimmy" (trying to sell or con selfish people out of something) and not the straight-laced "James McGill" he tries to be in the first couple of seasons..."Saul Goodman" also wasn't who he really was either - it was his coping mechanism IMO.

While Walter White wasn't quite a cold-blooded killer, he was as close to a villain as you can get without fully becoming one. He was an egomaniac that in the end only cared about himself and his work. It was subtle at first, making the audience tend to root for him. But it came out more and more as the series went along.

Jimmy still cares for Kim. He still has a heart. He's more anti-hero than villain IMO. And that's why I'll still root for him until the end. Whereas with Walter White, I think he got what he deserved.

Saw that german dub thread and don't want to hear anything about it.
