I am predicting Abe finds out that she is working a burlesque show when his coworkers take him there.

I like this one quite a bit, but man does the speed and delivery of the dialogue wear on me after a while. I'm glad they moved to an episodic release with a schedule.

I wore a cape to a black tie halloween party this year. Was awesome, IMO. Drank a little and managed to close the uber car door on my cape, leaving half of it hanging out of the car on the way home. It somehow got under the tire and got ran over. Scared the **** out of me and ruined my cape. Guess that ties into s4 episode 1 also....

Suzie at Jackie's funeral got me. Especially knowing that emotion was real and not just acting.

Agreed. Great scene.

Like Abe, I must speak the truth in my review. The people deserve that much. I love this show, but episode 4 just was not very enjoyable. The burlesque show is dragging things down. Her performances are not as sharp when she's there, and I miss watching a crowd fall under her spell.

I did think it was interesting how they addressed the obvious question about Susie while leaving the mystery intact. Susie's eulogy in episode 3 was by far the best thing to come out of this week's batch.

Time to get Midge back out on the road, the bigger stages, and let her start to taste success again.

Eulogy scene was awesome. Agree the burlesque dance numbers seem to drag a bit but they do seem to be moving towards Midge regaining her mojo (last routine where she had all the waitresses full attention and all the men were laughing hard too).

I love the two hitmen. Every scene they're in is hilarious.

Abe's cape and the negative review reveal at temple was amazing. For one horrifying instant I thought he was going to have a heart attack or stroke, but turns out he was just jealous.

The eulogy scene was great, but for the life of me I can't recall a single scene of Jackie or even who he was. Was he living with Susie? I thought the other guy at the funeral was living with Susie? If not, who is that guy?

He worked at the gas light and lived with her before the other weirder dude who was creeping on her at camp in the Catskills. Super gruff and grumpy but also an amazing tenant - always cooking and cleaning.

This article does a good job of summarizing the Jackie character.

Thanks. He wasn't a huge part of the show and I couldn't remember anything about him. That article was a good summary.

As weird as it is to say, Jackie was probably my favorite character in the whole damn show.

Definitely favorite outside of the main 4 or 5.

They built such a great depth in a background character one line at time.

His interaction about fixing chairs at the gaslight in season 2 (I think) where Susie reminds him he used to be a carpenter always kills me

I agree with all of this. I'm unsure how anyone could miss Jackie - the back and forth with he and Susie in S1 was fantastic.

Tuned in to the two newest episodes last night looking for mindless laughs and they decided to go all character development on us instead. I feel like there's a ton of depth to be explored, but I'll leave that to the Sepinwalls of the world.

(Spoiler tags since there isn't much discussion of this week's drop yet)

I have to confess I spent way too much time during the wedding episode rolling my eyes in anticipation of the inevitable "Drunk Midge grabs the mic and humiliates herself…again" moment that thankfully never came, which was a huge relief. Instead, we got the absolutely incredible scene with Midge and Shy in the bathroom.

I don't understand how Sophie became a sympathetic character for me again so quickly, but nevertheless I found myself pulling for her on the late-night show and loved how Abe turned her game show into must-see TV. One of the many little quirks that make this show so great. Hated the fight at the end, which proves once again that on this show, we can't have nice things for very long.

Curious to hear what y'all thought.

I thought the final scene was more cringe than funny. didn't enjoy it. the last five minutes of the show was all pain.

This was our take as well. The Matchmaker Mafia scene was kinda dumb too.

Episode 5 was great. Episode 6, not so much.

I found it thoroughly disappointing that mai didn't end up at dinner with Moishe, I had been seriously looking forward to that. Huge letdown.

I agree with most the criticisms. I will say I laughed way harder than I should have when she knocked over the tray of food at the wedding.

I liked the match maker mafia meeting and how indignant they were that she didn't understand the "letter"

I thought Sophie vs Midge dueling increasingly pointed jokes at each other was one of the best scenes of the series. It was fantastic

The scene was fine. But it's so Silicon Valley ish. Midge can't help but **** herself and she really should be too smart for that. Love both shows but damn I'd like to know who thought that was funny.

Haha. I knew the Midge-Sophie partnership was going to blow up, it just happened a lot sooner than I thought it might.

Loved the wedding bathroom convo like others have said. Also love how popular Sophie is with the rest of Midge's family. Especially Zelda.

Despite its lack of any real momentum, I've definitely enjoyed this season so far, but man, I think episode seven might be the worst episode of the entire series.

I strongly disagree. I thought this pair of episodes was way better than the last pair

Watching episode eight later tonight, but I just found the hypnotism to be so hacky and forced, and then the Kennedy thing stretched all believability for me. A stripper hooks Midge up with a gig performing for Jackie O? Really? And then Midge makes Jackie O cry? Played by an actress who looks nothing like the real Jackie O?

Even when this show feels like it's treading water, each individual scene is often so well done that I don't care. I love these characters so much, I just enjoy being with them no matter what they're doing. But those two sequences were the first time I think I've ever truly cringed during this entire series.

It's that, combined with the fact that I just finished the penultimate episode of the third season and nothing feels like it's leading anywhere. There's so much potential for Midge's career, and the places she can go and the things she can do, for the life of me I can't figure out why the filmmakers still have her performing at a strip club still trying to get booked literally anywhere else. I figured this rut would last two or three episodes, max.

Just hoping that'll finally get worked out in episode eight eight...

Great finale. I'm not saying the final talk/message from Lenny to Midge on the empty stage at the end was completely worth the stagnation of the season and Midge's career, but it was damn close. Either way, that was a phenomenal scene and a great springboard into the final season. Just an exceptional episode all around.

Haven't watched the final yet. But it's hard to watch a character keep making the same mistake and not learn anything or grow. She made the same mistake of putting her foot in her mouth on stage with Jakie O, Shy, Joel, her friend's wedding, her parents, and her brother. Good thing her kids haven't been impacted yet.
