That scene with Lenny reminded me of Joan Rivers on Louie imploring him not to quit the ****ty lounge gig in Atlantic City

I liked this season. Probably not as chock-full of LOLs are earlier ones, but it was still very funny and enjoyable. Plus we see a ton of characters develop and take steps forward… except Midge, which is frustrating but realistic and leads us to the great Carnegie finale scene. Which I think will perfectly lead into a huge step forward in the final season.

If you haven't looked up the history of the real Lenny Bruce, beware that it looks like the show is at least partially following his real life story arc.

I really love this show. The whole cast is just incredible and every scene is well-written.

Midge is a scorpion just like her father.

This season was rough………but the final strip club set, their love scene in the hotel, Lenny's set at Carnegie and his speech to her at the end were some of the best television I've seen in a while. Those scenes made it all worth it. This show is best with her and Lenny together.

So I've been on stage on Carnegie, and either they were really there or had a great set, it looked great. Here's the intro and beginning to Lenny Bruce's set at Carnegie. The show is really faithful to it.

I hope the guy who plays Lenny Bruce wins awards cuz he's electric whenever he shows up. Love him and Midge's chemistry.

I guess I understand some of the criticisms but I just find everything about this show so enjoyable. The sets, the dialogue, the characters… I smile all the way through it. I guess I just don't care that Midge puts her foot in her mouth constantly. I mean, that's kind of her thing.

Sucks I have to wait again so long for another season. Someone give Rachel Brosnahan more jobs.

Agree. And after the last episode I was talking to my wife about it. I'm not a big fashion person but even I notice the clothes of everyone in every scene. I feel like whatever that team gets paid, it isn't enough.

Luke Kirby won a prime time Emmy for playing Bruce in 2019, but he deserves something for this season too.

I feel like at this point this creative team should spin off a darker Lenny Bruce semi-biographic TV show

Honestly the Jackie O scene was the only misstep this season in my opinion. Seemed like a bridge too far (Midge too far?). It underscored Midge's scorpion-ness, but I think we all got that plenty and the show does pretty well with being "in period" without forcing historical connections.

You made me realize she comes by her scorpion-ness naturally. He father outed himself to the FBI and ostracized history from the Jewish community with his newspaper column. He even referred to himself as the scorpion when he left Temple.

I can't claim that wholly - GoAgs92 mentioned it earlier too.

My criticism of the Jackie O scene was 1, casting (I didn't think that actress was near hot enough) and 2, the Jackie break-down. Jackie knew everything and was cold/stoic about it. Nobody else knew anything at the time (reporters and political adversaries were too busy doing the same damn f***ing around and didn't air anything). Midge not knowing anything was not far fetched at all.

Oh, I wasn't trying to say that Midge knew about JFK's affairs. Just that she knew she shouldn't go off script and get into more racey material, but she couldn't help herself.

Ah. Yes, well, Midge being Midge.

I was still disappointed in Jackie. Such a good character they turned into a whiney baby. It would've been more accurate if she was the only one laughing and her friends being awkward.

Just finished all 4 seasons. Loved everything about it - the characters, the dialogue, the costumes, the great sets.
We wanted her to hit it big so missed the Shy Baldwin storyline but like how they somewhat reconciled- and missed Reggie.
Then two dads are the best - Tony Shahloub and Kevin Pollack - especially together.
Could definitely see a Broadway adaptation that would totally work.
Had to IMDB to confirm but yes Astrid is Succession's Willa.

I figured that was probably a recreation of one of his actual performances but wasn't sure.

Also, the last bit that was the closer about paying for a motel and saying it was his sister? Neither my wife nor I got the joke at all.

I don't remember the context, but there's only a few reasons you and a women would share a motel room for one night.
She's your wife, she's your sister, or it's a one night stand either paid or otherwise. The motel would look down on it being a lady of the night.

Thread bump.

Sorry, the wife and I just crawled out from under a rock and started watching this series. We had friends who told us we should watch it but we never had. It is incredible. Currently at the end of Season Two.

EDIT- not in S3 yet.

I hate to say it, but the middle of season three is the exact point where the series started to dip for me. That said, seasons three and four are still better than 95% of everything else on TV, it's just that seasons one and two are both all-timers for me. Season four ends pretty strong, though, and sets up the final season well, which has already filmed and I imagine will hit at some point during the summer/second half of the year.

Wife and I loved this show and strangely just stopped watching in the middle of season 4. Just didn't have the same magic and she wasn't doing any great routines.
TCTTS

I would give it another shot. I'm in agreement that it lacks a certain magic, but again, the season four finale is really, really strong, and sets up the final season well. Considering they now have an ending to aim for, I'm hoping season five is a return to form, or more focused at the very least.

Funny...early on the bassist in the band, Carol Keen, played left-handed. In the S3 finale she's playing right-handed. Oops?

I starred you- are you really into Borscht belt 1950s Jewish culture in the Northeast USA?

I just don't get how that translates to being fantastic to Christians in Texas in 2023.

Haha, no I don't have an innate affinity for 1950s Jewish culture. I do really like incredibly well-written scripts, great characters, great stories, great set and costume designs (especially period), and talented acting.

I really enjoyed Justified too, but it's not because of some preexisting fascination with law enforcement or Kentucky criminal hillbillies. I mostly watch TV and movies (and read books too) to expand my world and my existing interests.
