I don't think the character herself is unlikable, she just happens to be shoehorned into a bad movie where the director is basically trolling a fan base. The bad on-screen chemistry with Finn, pointless side quest, heavy handed political commentary, and breaking another character's arc beyond repair are all examples of bad directing, but Rose seems nice enough.

I understand your take except that I think he's the epitome of clever. I see him as the representation of what happens to somebody who really has a big heart and cares for patients deeply when they get put into a broken medical training system that took more away from people than it ever gave back. Medicine broke his marriage, broke his youth and broke him and turned him into a jaded *******.
He still did what was right for patients and he still had a sense of duty when it came to training residents, which trust me, is hard. He knew he had to make the residents into solid doctors but didn't know how else to do it except in the same way he had been made into a doctor. It doesn't make what he did right but his character was what happened to good people who were emotionally and psychologically abused during their trading.

Tavington was very dislikable, but only because he nailed the role

Jesse Eisenburg as Lex Luthor (because he ruined the character).

Yeah, there's a big difference in:
- unlikeable characters because they are superbly written and acted - Captain Sobel, Band of Brothers
- unlikable characters because they are poorly written - Anakin Skywalker, prequels
- unlikable characters because they are they are poor written and poorly acted - Mr Freeze, Batman and Robin
