I've become a big fan of Eric Church. He has so much energy during his shows and, at least in my opinion, has a lot of the 'classic' country sound, with a little bit of rock mixed in.

Yeah, but they're Southern Rock, so "I'll allow it".

I would add Tracy Lawrence to any '90s country list.

And definitely Joe Diffie.

Saw Randall King this weekend and he's pretty dang country. Lots of steel guitar.

My opinion, so it's probably wrong. Please don't yell at me.

80's had the turn of 70's Outlaw country into popular country music into a pop-country fusion that was more pop than country. But you still had "old-school" country thrown in there with George Straight and the like.

90's went less "Pop"y and synthesized sound to a more contemporary sound and therefore a return to the country-tone with the 80's & 90's Rodeo Country / Honkytonk thrown in there.

Garth Brooks may have started it, but Shania Twain took the pop/country fusion to a crazy level in the late 90's.

You had your patriotic and home-town country make a splash in 2000's and the contemporary sound planted a flag in the genre.

Then Texas Country made a wave (on wave) in the mid-2000's that fused the home-town, southern rock, & cowboy country into a force and gave songwriter's a place to hone their craft but never made a huge dent in the popular country of the day.

And starting in the early 2010's, Bro Country made it's debut and has been the dominant form ever since.

What we're seeing now is a turn back to the Outlaw Country of the 70's with artists like Chris Stapleton, Sturgill, & Tyler Childers. Hopefully it keeps going that way. My favorite that I find myself listening to is the 80's/90's Rodeo Country & Texas Country.

Outside of Texas Country, I'm not sure I listen to anything that came out of the aughts.

Mike & The Moonpies is giving the Turnpike Troubadours a run for best band in the business.

Lucas Jagneaux has put out a few good songs recently as well.

That whole lineup was a wet dream for any Texas Country fan at A&M in the late 90s/early 00s.

Check out David Adam Byrne if you like Randall King.. Similar sound and has been getting a lot of play on Texas Country radio.

To tie old and new together:
Triston Marez (w/ Ronnie Dunn) - Where the Neon Shines
Drew Fish (w/ Pam Tillis) - Every Damn Time
Adam Hood has been writing with Travis Tritt, too. He's been playing some of what they came up with at his concerts and it's strong. Adam's new album is going to be really good.

Y'all should check out Kolton Moore and the Clever Few. I like most of the bands in the above list and he's in my top 3 (likely my favorite).
